Position: Manager of Original Assessment


Responsibilities: This position serves the Manager of the Original Assessment section within the State Tax Commission and reports directly to the three Commissioners of the agency. The Manager is responsible for developing Cost of Capital Studies and supervising the completion of over 750 complex valuation appraisals performed annually by the Original Assessment Section staff. The Manager has supervision over the policies and procedures of the appraisal process and providing budget analysis of the section's work load each year. Additional responsibilities include coordinate staff activities; responding to inquiries from taxpayers, county officials, and other government agencies; implementing an audit review plan for all policies and procedures; conducting research and analysis for recommendations; and presenting support for those recommendations to the Commissioners.


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
1. Extensive knowledge of auditing techniques, principles in accounting, and financial theory.
2. Accomplished verbal and written communications skills for explaining statutes, regulations, rules, and policies and procedures to various stakeholders.
3. Ability to interpret complex financial and statistical reports and analyze data for complex calculations.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Graduation from an accredited four-year college or university with specialization in accounting or finance.
2. CPA preferred.


Location: Jefferson City, Missouri (remote work/remote office with high speed Internet access, plus some travel within the state)


Salary: commensurate with education and experience.
