Boiler Operator

Vicksburg Forest Products is currently seeking a Boiler Operator to join our team.

Essential Functions:

• Ability to read and interpret control gauges, electronic data, written instructions, and records.
• Knowledge and understanding of wood firing combustion, air or liquid flow, heat transfer, measurements, pressure, and levels.
• Knowledge and understanding to ensure the safe operation of thermal oil heater to make correct adjustments in controls, interlocks, and cutoffs as necessary in accordance with all manufacturer's manual and Vicksburg Forest Products’ SOPS.
• Knowledge and understanding of kiln control in wood drying to make corrections in controls, interlocks, and cutoffs as necessary in accordance with all manufacturers and company policy.
• Communicate effectively with other operators and employees
• Conduct daily inspections
• Complete daily quality audits
• Perform maintenance activities
• Maintain equipment
• Perform regular housekeeping duties
• Other duties as needed

Qualifications:

• Minimum one-year experience
• Able to troubleshoot and perform all maintenance repairs
• Make necessary adjustments for proper machine setup
• Identify and troubleshoot planer machine defects
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to work in a safe and efficient manner individually and in a team environment
• Knowledge of lumber manufacturing and welding are considered assets

Physical Requirements:

Move safely, quickly, and perform duties with repetitious movement. Sit and/or stand for shift, reach with hands and arms, stoop, squat, twist, push and pull, maintain balance, bend at the waist, kneel, walk varying distances, and climb stairs.

• Frequent climbing stairs
• Frequent and repetitious use of upper extremities (i.e. shoulders, arms, wrists, hands) in gripping, turning, manipulating objects of various sizes, shapes, weights
• Repetitious bending, kneeling or stretching
• Repetitious pushing and pulling 20 lbs. at 30” working height
• Occasional walking short distances
• Occasional lifting 50 lbs. from floor to 30” working height
• Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting 100 lbs. to 30” working height with the use of a dolly or hoist height

Environmental Conditions:

• Must be able to tolerate extreme hot, humid, cold, and outdoor conditions. Comfortable working in loud environment, around moving machinery, with vibrations and airborne particles (sawdust).
