Summary: Under the supervision of the Director of Health & Wellness/Rehab, the Occupational Therapist will carry out an individualized and/or group program of occupational therapy – including evaluation, treatment, program planning, implementation, education, and communication – to maximize Resident progress toward achieving and/or maintaining the best ability to function. The Occupational Therapist will also maintain a positive working relationship with other health professionals and ancillary staff. Supports the Corporate Compliance Program, and the Code of Ethical Conduct, and promotes the mission and values of Martha Jefferson House both internally and within the community.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • Provides supervision to Occupational Therapy Assistants according to the State Board of Occupational Therapy guidelines.
  • Provides training to Health & Wellness Technicians per the Director of Health & Wellness/Rehab.

Essential Functions:

  • Provides direct Resident care, evaluates functional needs and outcomes, and consults with other specialists. Reviews Resident functional needs and adjusts care plans to ensure optimal Resident outcomes.
  • Designs and implements a plan of care for Residents based on a thorough assessment of potential development and incorporates participation by other significant parties whenever it seems appropriate.
  • Conducts therapy practice within defined standards of care.
  • Communicates effectively with other professionals and support staff to achieve positive Resident outcomes.
  • Practices MJH Community policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement program, safety, environmental, and infection control standards.
  • Documents evaluations, treatment goals, and plans. Regularly updates documentation and maintains orders and signatures.
  • Enhances professional growth and development of self and others through participation in educational programs, in-service meetings, and workshops. Keeps up to date on professional literature.
  • Provides direction and leadership to staff and acts as a resource to promote occupational therapy in the MJH Community.

Education: Graduate of an American Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA) approved occupational therapy program—current license from the State Board of Occupational Therapy Examiners.

Job Knowledge: Knowledge and skill of meeting the special needs of the elderly and disabled persons; maintaining sterile techniques; and medical terminology. Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance. All local health regulations must be met, including a criminal background investigation and reference inquiry. Must maintain current licensure by obtaining the required number of CEU’s each year.

Standards: Must have a genuine interest in the elderly. Patience and tact. Interested in learning and advancement; ability to work amiably with others. Respect for the principles of resident rights, confidentiality, EEO and ADA. Must be able to move between multiple tasks concurrently and make decisions efficiently.

Performance Requirements: Regular and reliable attendance; irregular hours when necessary; attending work-related meetings; attendance at all mandatory trainings quarterly, 6-months and annually.
