Job Description

The Director of Marketing plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of our company by establishing and leading a new marketing function from the ground up. This individual will be tasked with the creation and execution of a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with our company’s growth objectives, enhances our brand presence, and drives market penetration for our product offerings. The role demands a strategic thinker with a robust understanding of both product marketing and marketing communications, capable of identifying the necessary resources and tools to build an effective marketing team.

This position is designed for an ambitious marketing professional who is eager to take on a senior role within a growing organization. The ideal candidate will possess a blend of creative vision and analytical prowess, with the ability to craft strategies that bridge the gap between our products and our customers. You will be responsible for budget management, team development, and leveraging data to inform marketing decisions, ensuring our messaging is compelling and coherent across all channels. This role offers the unique opportunity to make a significant impact, driving the establishment and success of the marketing function, with the potential to evolve into a directorial position as the company and team expand. Your leadership will not only shape the marketing department but also contribute to the overall direction and success of the company.

The Director of Marketing will work closely with the VP of Sales and Marketing, and global marketing functions, contributing to the development and implementation of marketing initiatives that resonate with our target audiences, foster customer engagement, and generate tangible business results.

Main responsibilities within the job (non-exhaustive list):

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive marketing strategy that aligns with the company's objectives and growth plans.
  • Establish the marketing function, identifying and acquiring the necessary resources and tools to build a robust strategy, and then the team to implement.
  • Manage overall North American product portfolio and product life cycle management processes.
  • Oversee all aspects of product marketing, including market research, voice of customer, product positioning, and messaging to ensure product-market fit and competitive differentiation.
  • Lead marketing communications efforts to enhance brand visibility and awareness across various channels, including digital, print, and events.
  • Design marketing communication strategies to better influence key stakeholders in the value chain (end users, lighting designers, landscape architects, distributors, contractors).
  • Collaborate with the sales team to develop cohesive strategies that drive sales growth and enhance customer engagement.
  • Manage the marketing budget, ensuring efficient allocation of resources for maximum impact on brand recognition and revenue generation.
  • Utilize data analytics to measure and report on the effectiveness of marketing campaigns and strategies, adjusting as necessary to optimize performance.
  • Create and provide visibility to critical KPI’s and leading indicators for the business.
  • Foster a culture of creativity, innovation, and continuous improvement within the marketing team.
  • Line manages the newly hired ‘Campaign Manager’ to ensure the development of digital marketing strategies, including SEO/SEM, email marketing, social media, and online advertising to reach target audiences effectively, and drive consistent, high-quality leads into the sales organization.
  • Create compelling content for marketing collateral, websites, and social media platforms that communicates the value proposition of our products and services.
  • Plan and execute promotional events and trade shows to showcase our products and connect with customers and industry partners.
  • Work closely with global product development teams to ensure the seamless launch of new products into the North American market.
  • Advocate for the customer within the company, ensuring that customer insights and feedback are incorporated into global product development and marketing strategies.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with external partners, vendors, and media agencies to enhance marketing efforts.
  • Ensure brand consistency across all marketing materials and channels, reinforcing the company's identity and values. Work closely with the sales team to ensure brand consistency is understood in all customer facing functions.
  • Monitor market trends, consumer behaviors, and competitive activities to inform strategic decisions and maintain a competitive edge.
  • Engage with customers and stakeholders through various platforms to gather feedback, build community, and strengthen customer loyalty. Introduce social media ‘listening’ to the marketing mix to ensure that online industry views are represented and understood.
  • Support the local General Managers and sales leadership on pricing strategies.
  • Provide leadership and direction to the marketing team, setting clear objectives and KPIs, and offering mentorship and professional development opportunities.
  • Drive the evolution of the marketing department, positioning it for potential expansion into a directorial role as the company grows.
Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing is strongly preferred; MBA considered a plus.
  • 7+ years of overall marketing experience which includes ownership of product life cycles.
  • Minimum of 5+ years leading a marketing team in a business with highly technical products within a B2B environment.
  • 5+ years of relevant digital marketing experience targeting stakeholders in the architect, building or construction industries, or similar.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of extensive marketing experience with a proven track record in customer acquisition, engagement and retention.
  • Languages: English; French considered a plus.
