Family Engagement & Support Coordinator, UW Community Schools

This is a part-time position at only 8 hours per week and funded through September of 2024 only (funding may be extended). It requires in person attendance at schools in Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties for events that may be during the school day, in the evening or on weekends.

Engage and equip families at United Way Community Schools family engagement events with tangible and digital resources to support early literacy skill building and reading.

This position will help LVReads partner with United Way Community Schools by tabling at family engagement events to share knowledge, resources and skills to boost literacy support in the home and throughout students’ reading journey. This position is additionally responsible for having Corey the mascot accompany them to at least a third of the events attended.

Coordination of which events to attend, when and where they are scheduled and prioritized will be the responsibility of the position, guided by the UWCS Network Director. This role will also be responsible for sharing notes and photos from each event within 3 days of attending each event.

Responsibilities

• 8 hours a week coordinating and attending UWCS family engagement events
• Presence at Family Engagement Events across UWCS Network 1xweek (6 mon)
• Engage meaningfully with families at UWCS events
• Be knowledgeable about the WorldReader – BookSmart App
• Distribute LVReads resources to families to support literacy with children (books, digital app, materials, swag, etc.)
• Manage logistics and care for Corey the Mascot at 1/3 of all events
• Short emailed recap of each event with at least 3-5 photos and appropriate releases
• Coordination with each UWCS as well as transportation of Corey as appropriate
• Maintain master schedule of UWCS events
• Regular communication with UWCS Network Director

Requirements
This position is casual part-time at 8 hours per week and funded through September of 2024 only. It requires in person presence at events at schools in Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties which may occur during the school day, in the evening or on the weekend. Experience, paid or unpaid, working in public middle and elementary schools engaging with students and families.
Qualified to receive clearances to work with minors as per Act 153 (UWGLV will secure for you)
Own transportation (with reimbursement) to meetings and events in Lehigh, Northampton and Carbon counties.
