Job Description

The Maintenance Electrician is responsible for safely maintaining, repairing, replacing and modifying all processing, packaging and facility equipment with optimal quality and efficiency.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Repairs, installs, replaces and tests electrical circuits, equipment and appliances.
  • Uses hand tools and testing instruments.
  • Inspects and tests electrical equipment, lighting, signal, communication and power circuits.
  • Isolates defects in wiring, switches, motors and other electrical equipment using testing instruments such as ammeter, ohmmeter, voltmeter or testing lamp.
  • Replace faulty switches, sockets and other elements of electrical systems.
  • Dismantle electrical machinery and replace defective electrical or mechanical parts such as gears, brushes and armatures.
  • Mount motors, transformers and lighting fixtures into position and completes circuits according to diagram specifications.
  • Perform all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Inspects completed work for conformance with requirements of local building and safety codes. Estimates time and materials cost on electrical projects.
  • Requisitions new electrical supplies and equipment.
Required Qualifications/Skills:
  • 2+ years of experience position or specialization
  • Ability to apply advanced skills and may develop advanced skills using tools and equipment appropriate for the position or specialization
  • Adapts procedures, processes, tools, equipment and techniques to accomplish the requirements of the position
  • Duties and tasks reflect substantial variety and complexity
  • Assignments are broad in nature and usually require originality and ingenuity
  • May serve as a resource to others in the resolution of complex problems and issues
  • Works under the general supervision of the Maintenance Supervisor
  • Able to work in a noisy, wet and cold environment of approximately 32 to 36 degrees Fahrenheit
  • Able to read and understand all electrical testing instruments
  • Able to read and understand blueprints and electrical schematics and logic diagrams
  • Employee must be able to read and understand and follow all electrical cautions markings, including NFPA arc flash warnings
  • The employee is required to stand on cement, reach with hands and arms and stoop over 2/3 of the time
  • The employee is required to lift up to 75 pounds
Other Desired Qualifications/Skills:
  • Ability to use a multi-meter and other measurement instruments.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and/or modify PLC controls, such as Allen-Bradley, GE Fanuc
  • Fabricate and modify parts using shop equipment; utilizing sanitary welding equipment procedures
  • Ability to demonstrate proficient fabrication and welding systems and skills
  • Operate our CMMS system and demonstrate 100% functionality in order to complete work orders as well as log corrective maintenance issues in the system
  • Forklift certified
  • Use computer programs, such as Word and Excel
Education/Training:
  • High School diploma or equivalency (such as a technical degree) required; specific technical training to support the Maintenance Skills Summary.
  • Electrician's license
