We currently have immediate openings for the Registered Nurse (RN) positions- for our Vertava Health location in Southaven, MS location. The hours for this position is from 7pm to 7am.

Position Summary

We are looking for someone with knowledge of Substance Abuse Programs and experience as a Registered Nurse (RN).

This position is responsible for providing compassionate, evidence-based care to adult patients with substance use disorders. You will develop and utilize expert assessment skills, therapeutic relationship building, specialty medication knowledge, and current best practices to help patients safely navigate withdrawal and build a strong foundation for long-term recovery from addiction.

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Perform comprehensive nursing assessments on new admissions.
  • Use CIWA and COWS tools to gauge withdrawal symptoms.
  • Assess acute and chronic co-occurring physical and mental health issues.
  • Monitor the efficacy of medication and non-pharmacological interventions.
  • Utilize knowledge and judgment to check orders, hold meds, and determine PRN needs.
  • Enter verbal and telephone orders accurately into eMAR.
  • Work with pharmacies to clarify orders and facilitate fulfillment.
  • Monitor and document response to medications.
  • Practice Vigilance in all interactions with medication to prevent diversion.
  • Provide direct nursing care to address a variety of health issues in accordance. with established nursing practice and specific orders.
  • Respond immediately to medical emergencies (Code Blue) and assume leadership until a medical provider or EMS takes over.
  • Meticulously document assessments and observations, medication administration, intervention and response, and progress toward goals.
  • Maintain legal logs of stock medication, controlled substances, reportable incidents, etc.
  • Accurately capture reports from outside facilities, such as nurse-to-nurse reports from hospital discharge.
  • Oversee safe operation of nursing station(s) and equipment.
  • Work with a multidisciplinary team on all phases of treatment planning.
  • Partner closely with MDs, Pas, NPs, and pharmacists.
  • Communication with other departments and units to ensure continuity of care.
  • Serve as a liaison to patient families as appropriate.
  • Learn about the disease model of addiction and evidence-based treatments.
  • Remain current with all required training, and certifications.
  • Obtains patient authorization for medical records release and release of information (HIPAA CFR 42 compliance).
  • Prepares patients for examination and treatment, including taking vital signs.
  • Performs screening & medical procedures, as ordered by a physician (urine drug screens).
  • May perform routine blood drawing procedures.
  • Obtains pertinent patient information, including but not limited, to patient authorizations and recent lab results delivered by the patient.
  • Assists in ordering, receiving, and stocking office and medical supplies.
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in nursing
  • Experience or interest in addiction nursing and/or behavioral health helpful
  • Flexibility and aptitude for problem-solving

  • Current licensure in the state of employment

Physical Requirements:

  • Must be able to occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 lbs.
