Job Title: Collision Repair Technician

Objectives

To repair the vehicle as quickly as possible in a safe and quality manner, with a fit and finish that meets or exceeds the original factory fit and finish. The end result should be an invisible repair.

Technician Responsibilities

  • Complete all repair assignments according to Repair Planner’s estimate.
  • Always check all the parts for correctness before starting the repair and notify the appropriate person of any incorrect parts or other discrepancies.
  • Immediately notify the appropriate person of any hidden or missed damage that doesn’t appear on the Work Order.
  • All straightening and repairs should be done according to factory specifications, including door, hood, and deck alignments, chassis and frame measurements, welded-on unibody parts, etc.
  • Protect the customer’s car to prevent damage during the repairs. This includes but is not limited to the use of seat bags, floor mats, car covers, welding blankets, masking paper, or any other practical method to ensure positive results.
  • Be responsible and accountable for all parts for any jobs that are assigned to you. Be organized and develop a system for holdings the parts and fasteners until they are installed or re-installed on the vehicle.
  • Apply undercoating, gravel guard, seam sealer, and lubricants as the need presents itself or as listed on the Work Order.
  • All repairs and painted parts should be completed to the point of "ready for paint" prior to delivering the vehicle to the paint department.
  • After painting, re-assembly, headlight adjustment, and other final alignments and adjustments prior to the car being delivered should be performed.
  • Inspect your work and that of others to ensure that the vehicle is delivered with a fit and finish equal or superior to the original factory fit and finish.
  • Remain conscious of, and make every effort to achieve, the objectives outlined on the delivery list of cars scheduled. Sometimes this requires working overtime to meet the objectives.
  • Upon completion of a job or nearing completion of a job, advise the production manager and request a new assignment.
  • Maintain a good work attitude and cooperate with managers and fellow employees in a positive spirit of teamwork.


Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each task at a satisfactory level. The individual must be able to retain the procedures and effectively respond to questions from Management and other staff members. The ability to deal with situations involving variables in a professional manner is also expected. Must have a valid driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Ability to maintain outstanding physical condition and cardiovascular stamina appropriate for the performance of rigorous assigned duties and responsibilities which may include sitting, standing, walking sit, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, driving or riding in vehicles. Frequent squatting or bending required. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to lift up to 10 pounds and up to 25 pounds. The employee is frequently required to lift up to 50 pounds and frequent pushing, pulling, lifting and/or moving up to 75 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to lift up to 100 pounds. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk and sit. The employee is occasionally required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.

Close vision (clear vision at 20 inches or less)

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions. Extreme exposures to heat and/or cold for extended periods, as well as adverse environmental conditions such as confined space, swift/deep water, noise, extreme height, wind, darkness and wetness. While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals and risk of electrical shock.

To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each task at a satisfactory level.

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume.
  • Prefer to be I-Car Certified. (Not a requirement)
  • At least 5 years’ experience to successfully perform this job.
