Job Summary:
The Grounds Maintenance Technician performs routine maintenance and construction of parks and recreation buildings, athletic fields and facilities, and equipment. Employee may be subject to varying hours of work, including nights and weekend, Employee may work with jail trustees and community service workers in carrying out the duties of this position.

Key Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
• Do the right thing.
• Promote the vision, mission and values of the Board of Supervisors and County Government Organization.
• Responsible for performing routine maintenance on athletic fields, park facilities, and other County property for sports and general citizen use. This work includes mowing, trimming, laying out and marking fields for various sports, trash pickup, general cleaning of grounds, restrooms, concession stands and snow removal.
• Reponsible for care and minatenance of trails, boat launches, parking lots and other County outdoor facilities
• Responsible for the care and routine maintenance of tools and equipment.
• Responsible for the operation of equipment, including but not limited to mowers, tractors, skid steer, utility vehicles, and bunker rakes.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Job Requirements:
• High School Diploma or GED equivalent preferred.
• Experience working in landscaping and with associated power equipment and machinery.
• Some experience in facilities and grounds maintenance, tool and equipment operation related to a parks and recreation program, preferred.
• Knowledge of general construction tools, hand-held power tools and maintenance equipment with safe work practices, knowledge and ability to troubleshoot and perform routine maintenance and repair.
• Ability to learn a variety of contruction and maintenance equipment.
• Basic knowledge of sports and recreation programs.
• Ability to follow oral and written directions.
• Must possess a valid drivers license and maintain a good driving record.
• Ability to work efficiently and effectively to meet required deadlines.
• Ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, other County employees and the general public.
• Must be able to understand and follow oral and written instructions and meet deadlines.
• General math and computation skills required to calculate measurements, ratios, differences, etc.
• Ability to pass a pre-employment physical that includes alcohol/drug screening and on-going random screenings.
• Responsible for other related duties as assigned.

Physical Demands/Special Work Environment:
• The person in this position frequently moves equipment, tools, maintenance items, trash and yard waste weighing up to 50 pounds.
• Frequently operates, positions and inspects machinery and tools for use in maintenance tasks.
• The person in this position frequently is required to traverse across uneven grounds; sports fields; indoor areinas; small spaces such as bathroom stalls and concession stands; and wet, snow or ice covered walkways.
• The person in this position frequently communicates and exchanges information with colleagues on detailed instructions on work assignments. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
• Occasionally ascends/descends ladder to provide maintenance to fans, lights or other elevated areas that require servicing.
• Constantly positions one’s self low to ground or on ground to provide maintenance to irrigation, equipment and clay infield surfaces on fields.
• Requires accurate use and precise perception and judgement for: safe use of measuring devices; operation of machinery and equipment; operation of motor vehicles; and the general observation of surroundings and activities for the safey of indiviudals, staff and the general public.
• Constantlly works in outside environmental conditions, extreme cold, extreme heat, hazards and atmospheric conditions.
