Job Class: Non-Exempt / Reports To: Food & Beverage Supervisor


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Host / Hostess is responsible for extending a warm, friendly, and immediate greeting to guests at the door and seat guests, presenting clean menus in a professional and quick manner. This position is also responsible for delivering food and beverage orders to guestrooms according to hotel specifications, courteously, and efficiently. Assists in the maintenance of the room service area and equipment.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: NOTE: Hotel Andaluz may unilaterally may change the requirements of this job description at any time. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. These include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Greet and seat guests and present menus to guests.
  • Treat guests in a manner to ensure their complete satisfaction.
  • Take name on a waiting list and run the floor plan board.
  • Observe tables and keep track of clean, dirty, and occupied tables.
  • Take guest information and quote wait to guests accurately when tables are not immediately available.
  • Cleans, organizes, and stocks menus at the host/hostess area.
  • Answer phone and answer questions concerning the menu and restaurant.
  • Take to-go orders and record proper information including name and telephone number.
  • Pack and check every to-go order for quality and accuracy before giving it to the customer.
  • Interact with guests during visit and as they leave the restaurant to ensure positive dining experience.
  • Assist with pre-bus, clearing tables, and filling drinks when needed.
  • Daily window cleaning throughout restaurant.
  • Performs any necessary pre-shift side work.
  • Learns menu for area and ingredients.
  • Prepares room service area for each shift according to side work schedules.
  • Ensures proper working order of all equipment used in room service. Notifies Dining Room Manager of problems.
  • Anticipates guests' needs, delivering food and cocktail orders promptly. Ensures all guest checks are signed.
  • Practices "clean as you go" techniques of service, keeping station clean, neat, and supplies at all times.
  • Restores equipment and other assigned items prior to and at the end of shift.
  • Follows pick up in hallway procedure.
  • Enters the guest room and places tray by the established standard.
  • Opens and serves wine or champagne as requested.
  • All other duties as assigned.

  • High school diploma or equivalent education.
  • Customer Service experience required, server assistant experience preferred.
  • Must be Alcohol Certified in the state of New Mexico or be able to pass Responsible Service of Alcohol Test within 30 days of hire.
  • Must display very good organization and time management skills.
  • Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with many types of personalities.
  • Must possess basic math skills and have the ability to operate cash register and/or POS system and count back change
  • Must have sound judgment and discretional skills and be able to work with little supervision.
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Must be knowledgeable of workplace safety procedures.
  • Must be able to work overtime, including weekends, evenings, and special events as needed.
