Job Description
The Maintenance Technician will repair hydraulics, small engines, pumps, processing equipment, machinery, automobiles, forklifts, ice plants and any other mechanical devices used in the seafood processing business.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Observe, examine and dismantle mechanical devices to determine problems
- Tests lines, components and connections for issues
- Repairs or replaces defective equipment parts
- Sharpens, lubricates and cleans equipment
- Tests and adjusts equipment to meet performance standards
- Abides by safety and sanitation standards, including Lockout/Tag out procedures
- Maintains records of repairs and replacements made
- Other duties, as assigned
- Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test
Education/Experience/Certificates, Licenses or Registrations:
- Five years of mechanical experience and/or training
- The ability to work independently while meeting deadlines
- Valid Driver's License
Special Training/Skills:
Ability to speak, read and understand basic English and numbers. Ability to perform routine mathematical calculations.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to cold, wet and/or humid conditions and moving mechanical parts. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; chemicals; outside weather conditions; risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level is usually loud. The work hours can vary and be just a few hours a day and as much as 14 hours, with the flexibility to work overtime or evening hours during the summer.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, and use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 lbs. Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception.
Mental Activities:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use critical thinking and teamwork skills. The employee will occasionally use interpersonal and customer service skills. The employee will occasionally perform basic math and read, speak and write English.
