Description:

Works under the direct supervision of the Recreation Superintendent. Takes a leading role in all safety practices, maintenance, and instruction for the Logan Aquatic Center (LAC).

Qualifications:

Must be 18 years of age or older. Must be a graduate of a standard senior high school or equivalent. Must have aquatic experience equivalent to three (3) years lifeguard, WSI, and/or supervisory work. Requires the ability to effectively meet and deal with the public, communicate effectively verbally and in writing, and handle stressful situations. Applicants must be strong swimmers and work well with others. Concentrated mental application required. Applicant must be self-starters and able to maintain excellent physical condition. Applicant must be able to work hours determined by a weekly work schedule; this includes morning, afternoon, and evening shifts.

CERTIFICATIONS: Position requires the following current American Red Cross certifications: Head Lifeguard Training, Lifeguard, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and First Aid. Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) preferred.

Responsibilities:

Supervises the aquatic facility in the absence of the Recreation Superintendent. Maintains staff rotations and breaks. Maintains control of the posted bathing load. Observes patron activities, enforces rules, disciplines or ejects patrons for rule infractions, and ensures compliance of policies and procedures. Supervises and report lifeguards of their performance when on duty. Assist in the supervision and training of lifeguards, water safety instructors, facility attendants, and cashiers. Provides leadership and direction in the supervision of aquatic personnel. Attends and assists with in-service training programs and evaluations. Works as head lifeguard and/or lifeguard as needed. Assists in the planning and management of any related aquatic activities, including design, layout, operation, inventory, and staffing. Checks all gates and doors at the closing of business hours. Monitors water activities to assure safety and prevent accident or injury to patrons. Recognizes and responds effectively to emergencies. Performs first aid as needed. Performs water rescues as needed to prevent mishaps and drowning. Inspects the facility on a daily schedule and reports unsafe conditions and equipment to supervisor. Assists in conducting water quality checks. Completes records and reports. Participates in all staff training and programs. Performs routine cleaning tasks and performs other duties as assigned or directed.
