RN Plus ICU Program

The HCA RN Plus ICU Program provides a pathway for HCA Healthcare Acute Care Medical-Surgical and Telemetry Registered Nurses to transition into the ICU Department Specialty

10 – Week Training for experienced RNs

• Four (4) weeks of interactive classroom discussions, case studies, hand-on skills training, and simulations with experienced StaRN clinical instructors
• Six (6) weeks of unit-based clinical preceptorship

Interactive classroom lectures/discussions

• Curriculum-based on evidence-based practice, National Standards and HCA Healthcare Clinical Standards of Excellence
• Basic Dysrhythmia
• ARC Basic Life Support/ARC Advanced Life Support
• Meditech (EDM) hands-on training
• Critical Care medication management
• Communication Tools based on TeamSTEPPS
• AIDET, SBAR, Patient Experience, Fall Prevention, and more

 Hands-on Critical Care Skills Training, that includes but not limited to:

• IV and Phlebotomy
• Indwelling catheter and NC
• Chest tube management
• Pump management
• Critical care medication titration
• Blood Administration
• Hemodynamic monitoring
• Ventilator management/troubleshooting

5 Days of high-fidelity simulation

• Critical Care – specific scenarios
• Comprehensive facilitated video debriefing

Qualifications

• 2+ years of RN experience (non-critical care areas)

Bay Area is our full-service acute care hospital and offers state-of-the-art cardiovascular services, bariatric, GYN and robotic surgery. The Women’s Center at Bay Area, with its NICU Unit, is also the home of our graduate medical education program. The Heart Hospital offers complete diagnostics, treatment, surgery and rehabilitation for cardiac patients. Northwest Regional/Northwest Behavior Health Center provides emergency medical services, laboratory, imaging services and outpatient behavioral health services. Bayview Behavioral Hospital provides inpatient and outpatient short-term treatment for psychiatric patients ages 12 years and older, as well as substance abuse treatment. Northshore Emergency Center is a full-service 24-7 emergency department in Portland that offers outpatient laboratory, imaging and occupational services. Radiation Oncology offers advanced technology for treating cancer with the latest and most specific radiation therapies available. Our programs focus on the needs of individual patients, while employing the latest techniques and research of 21st-century medicine.
