Sheridan Fruit Company began in 1916 as a produce stand and has grown into one of the premier retail & wholesale businesses in Portland. We are a full-service grocery store, deli, meat department, bulk aisle and wholesale department.
SUMMARY: The Meat Cutter is responsible for cutting, trimming, boning, and grinding meats to portion and preparing meat in cooking form by performing the following duties.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Wraps, weighs, labels and prices cuts of meat.

  • Cuts, trims and grinds meats, such as beef, pork, poultry, and fish, to prepare meat in cooking form.

  • Place meat cuts and products in the display counter so they will appear attractive and catch the shopper's eye.

  • Prepares special cuts of meat ordered by customers.

  • Tends electric grinder to grind meat.

  • Ensures that food safety standards are followed for cooling and storage of food items to prevent an environment for exposure to bacteria associated with food-borne illnesses.

  • Take necessary measures to avoid food waste.

  • Recommends, slices, weighs, packages and prices meat & seafood products.

  • Maintains and rotates products and displays to ensure new items and promotions are showcased.

  • Provides excellent service to meat counter customers by responding to requests and making recommendations.

  • Maintain kitchen work areas, equipment, or utensils in clean and orderly condition. Clean food preparation areas, facilities, or equipment.

  • Wash dishes, utensils, pots, or pans, using dishwashers or by hand

  • Performs other related duties as assigned by management.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • This job has no supervisory responsibilities.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • At least 1 year of meat cutting experience preferred

  • Other skills required:

    • Knowledge and understanding of safety, sanitation and food handling procedures.

    • Ability to work flexible hours including evenings, weekends and holidays.

    • Ability to perform duties in a team environment.

    • Responds promptly to customer needs; Responds to requests for service and assistance
