Role Overview

The General Machinist sets up and operates Numerical controlled machines and conventional machine tools to machine metallic and nonmetallic work pieces according to specifications, tooling instructions, standard charts and applying knowledge of machining methods. Troubleshoot process problems using statistical tools. Make CNC program changes as required. Assist in new product development.

Work Location: Littleton, CO

Key Responsibilities

Read and interpret engineering prints, routings, tool sheets and related technical data to ensure maximum levels of production through proper set-ups and operation of machinery. Enters commands to retrieve preprogrammed instructions from data base.

Ensure quality parts while minimizing scrap and rework through correct and effective use of SPC charts and records. Enters commands or manually adjusts machine controls to correct malfunctions or out- of tolerance machining.

Ensure highest quality is maintained on all parts being produced through proper use of measuring devices and visual, as well as, mechanical inspection of parts.

Maintain simple records, data sheets, work orders and time cards accurately to avoid time consuming and costly errors.

Help other employees in machining with trouble shooting process /production problems, keep records of techniques and tools used and implement permanent corrections. Updates records as required.

Operate most machines in the machine shop.

Select positions and secures tools in tool holders (Chuck, Collet or turret).

Ensure quality and dimensional tolerances by replacing worn or broken tools and changing chucks, collet pads, holding fixtures and tool holders as required.

Assist Machinist during set up of machine.

Maintain all equipment used in good working condition by oiling, greasing and periodically freeing equipment of chips.

Operate equipment in such a manner that raw materials are used to their best advantage and tools are protected against breakage.

Stack, mark and transport finished work pieces to next operation.

Other duties as assigned.

Critical Competencies for Success

High school Diploma/GED

A minimum of five years of experience working in a machine shop

Ability to work from written and verbal instructions.

Must be familiar with various measuring instruments used for checking the quality of work performed and be able to work from shop drawings.

Fluent in reading and speaking English

Ability to navigate windows systems to pull and verify paperwork.
