ABOUT CITYWALK BHAM:

The recent completion of Birmingham’s I-59/20 Central Business District (CBD) Interstate bridges brings about a renewed focus on the space underneath the bridges known as City Walk BHAM. The goal of City Walk BHAM is to provide a space to assist in reconnecting Birmingham and create a destination and common area open to all citizens.

City Walk BHAM spans 10 city blocks, from 15th St N to 25th St N – almost a mile in length. The entire area encompasses 31 acres, which will provide a space to assist in connecting Birmingham. For more information visit www.bjcc.org

Summary/Objective
The primary responsibility of a Dog Park Attendant is to ensure permit compliance at the off-leash dog park zone for City Walk BHAM. Under the supervision of the Operations Manager, efficiently monitors compliance and professionally enforce dog park rules and regulations, including monitoring of permits. Ensures dog park zone is cleaned, safe and well maintained.

Essential Duties/Responsibilities

Demonstrates understanding and full performance ability in each of the following:

  • Provide general information to patrons regarding dog park rules and policy, as well as general park inquires.
  • Working understanding of local animal control laws as well as park rules and regulations.
  • Maintains membership system, including accepting applications and verification of vaccination records.
  • Opens dog park zone, inspecting area for cleanliness and equipment is well-maintained.
  • Close and secure dog park zone.
  • Verifies dogs entering the park has appropriate tag, before admittance.
  • Monitors compliance of dog park safety polices.
  • Diplomatically educates dog owners with regard to dog park rules and responsible supervision of visiting dogs.
  • Ensure dogs remain leashed until properly secured in dog park zone.
  • Refill supplies such as refilling water containers and dog waste bags.
  • Conduct general safety and cleanliness duties, including picking up trash and dog waste.
  • Ensure dog owners clean up after their dogs.
  • Mediates and resolves issues between dogs and dog owners.
  • Inspects dog park grounds for cleanliness and ensures equipment is well maintained as required by management.
  • Complete administrative tasks such as daily reporting and checklists.
  • Performs other duties as required.

Work Environment

This environment is fast paced and moderately demanding. Work is typically performed outdoors, regularly exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and outside weather conditions. Frequently interacts with pets and their pet family.

Physical Demands

Duties require extended periods of standing and walking. Limited amount of physical effort such as walking, standing, climbing, bending, stooping, squatting, and kneeling. Ability to lift up to 50lbs with or without assistance, while maintaining good balance. Must be flexible enough to reach above shoulder level and be able to push and pull for brief periods of time. Visual acuity, speech recognition, and speech clarity.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
Part-time position; hours of work must be flexible and varied to meet the demands of the events of the facility. Must be able to work extended and/or irregular hours including day, nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.

Required Education and Experience

  • Minimum of one (1) year related knowledge, experience, and skills in customer service, park operations working with the public, or similar position preferred.
  • Previous experience providing animal care strongly preferred.
  • High School Diploma or G.E.D, preferred.
