About the opportunity

Waypoint has a fabulous learning opportunity for a Bachelor's Level Intern in our Runaway Youth Social Work Program for the Fall of 2024. Although this is an unpaid internship, you will earn credits toward your college degree. In this internship you will have the opportunity to provide services to youth ages 12-17 who are runaway, homeless, or at risk for either. Every youth that is within this age bracket that comes into the drop-in center is referred to this program. Referrals are also gained through other community-based agencies and organizations. The services are individualized to the youth that we serve but may include one-on-one case management, family mediation, community referrals, emergency housing, and/or supportive counseling.

Responsibilities may include carrying an on-going caseload of 2-3 youth and provide all necessary and appropriate services to them, as well as keeping up-to-date files including written assessments and case plans.

Qualifications:

  • You must be motivated and passionate about our mission and purpose.
  • Ability to work at least 15-20 hours per week for 10-12 weeks.
  • Must be in process of Bachelor's degree or Masters Degree in Social Work (or related field).
  • 2 years related experience working with high risk youth
  • Ability to collaborate with peers, Leadership and the clients. Seek out counsel when needed.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative, independence and discretion
  • Ability to respect clients from a variety of backgrounds and situations.
  • Ability to clearly communicate over the phone, in writing, and in person.
  • Ability to keep good records and to write assessments for sometimes complex cases
  • Must pass a criminal record check, with no history of abuse, neglect or exploitation and a motor vehicle check.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and auto insurance that meets agency minimum liability coverage of $50,000/$100,000.
