Location Status: Work will be primarily performed at a designated field worksite location based out of a central Race Communications worksite. Occasional travel to

and work from other Race offices or other off-site locations will be required.

Summary:

The CDL Underground (UG) Laborer plays a vital role in the construction, maintenance, and operation of underground telecommunications infrastructure as directed by the Foreman and/or Supervisor. Your responsibilities include hands-on work in excavation, cable installation, equipment operation, and ensuring a safe and organized work environment. You collaborate closely with your team to support the efficient and secure installation of cabling, wiring, and related materials. Safety consciousness, adherence to industry regulations, and effective communication are essential in this role. Your contributions are integral to expanding and maintaining the telecommunications network, enabling the seamless flow of information and connectivity.

This individual should be able to communicate and work effectively with external service representatives and internal team members who possess a wide variety of backgrounds, personalities, and communication skills. This individual should be able to work effectively in a dynamic, fast-paced, and evolving environment while maintaining a productive professional demeanor. This individual must be capable of working independently, as well as collaboratively with other Race team members across teams and levels of our organization.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Eligibility for US Employment without sponsorship
  • Minimum of 18 years of age
  • A valid California driver's license, subject to successful verification through a DMV check, is mandatory
  • Possession of a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and medical card in good standing
  • Proficiency in operating a variety of utility trucks and equipment safely and effectively
  • Skill in handling tools and equipment securely and efficiently
  • Consistent and punctual attendance is crucial for this role
  • Minimum of 6 months of experience in the telecommunication sector
  • Ability to read blueprints and interpret utility maps to identify the type and size of underground utilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Underground Construction:

  • Executes all stages of underground construction, involving loading, driving, delivering, excavating, removing, and placing diverse construction materials and equipment
  • Conducts manual digging using shovels and mechanical tools for excavation purposes
  • Installs and upholds underground telecommunications cabling, ensuring proper placement and secure installations

Equipment Operation and Maintenance:

  • Safely enters and exits equipment, including trucks, cars, backhoes, and trenchers
  • Operates heavy machinery and equipment proficiently and safely
  • Maintains constant visual and auditory communication with team members and the surrounding environment, ensuring the safe coordination of movement

Work Environment:

  • Operates in both congested urban areas and remote locations, adapting to diverse work environments
  • Executes general construction tasks under the supervision of the Foreman/Supervisor
  • Manages property flagging and worksite restoration procedures to ensure organized project completion

Safety and Coordination:

  • Upholds a secure work environment by adhering to regulations, procedures, and company policies, ensuring safety standards are consistently maintained

All new employees will participate in the mandatory 'Speedway to Success' (Speedway) orientation at one our offices located in either Tehachapi, CA, Yuba City, Chico, CA, or South San Francisco, CA. The duration of the Speedway program spans from 1-3 weeks, depending on the position. During Speedway the schedule will vary: 8-hour days are planned, but shorter days may occur depending on the group’s pace. Applicants further than 50 miles from these training locations will be provided with necessary travel accommodations as part of the onboarding process. Applicants 50 miles or less from these locations will be considered regular commute. For those working remotely, virtual attendance will depend on position requirements. Further details will be provided to you during the interview process, and before your start date.
