Position Summary

The University of Denver is seeking a highly qualified and motivated individual to serve as the Men's Club Rugby Coach. Club Sport Coaches are responsible for overseeing the development and administration of their club sports teams within the university's club sports program. The coach plays a crucial role in providing coaching to student-athletes while promoting the values of sportsmanship and teamwork.

This is a non-benefited position not to exceed 1,000 hours in a calendar year.

Essential Functions

Coaching and Training:

  • Develop and implement effective training programs, practice sessions, and game strategies specific to the sport of rugby.
  • Provide skill instruction, guidance, and constructive feedback to enhance individual and team performance.
  • Foster an inclusive and supportive environment that promotes the personal and athletic development of student-athletes.

Team Management:

  • Conduct regular team meetings to discuss team goals, expectations, and upcoming events.
  • Coordinate practice schedules, facility reservations, and game schedules in collaboration with the club sports office and executive board.
  • Ensure compliance with University policies, rules, and regulations related to club sports

Competition and Event Management:

  • Attend competitions, matches, and tournaments with the team and provide coaching and support during games
  • Collaborate with the club sport executive board to organize and execute club sports events and fundraisers

Student-Athlete Development:

  • Foster a positive and respectful team culture that emphasizes sportsmanship, academic success, and personal growth
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to student-athletes, providing guidance on balancing academic and athletic commitments
  • Encourage and support student-athletes' participation in leadership and community service opportunities

Administrative Duties:

  • Maintain accurate records of team rosters, participation, and performance statistics
  • Assist with equipment inventory, maintenance, and procurement
  • Collaborate with the club sports office on fundraising initiatives, and compliance with university policies and procedures

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Knowledge of coaching techniques, strategies, and game rules.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to motivate and inspire student-athletes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of student-athletes, coaches, and University staff
  • Familiarity with University club sports programs and the unique challenges and opportunities they present

Required Qualifications

  • Rugby coaching experience

Work Schedule

This is a part-time position that will require evenings during the week and weekend games.

Hourly Range

The hourly pay ranges from $18.29-$35.00, commensurate with qualifications and experience.
