Schedule: 8 hours shifts/ 40 hrs. a week 
Pay: $20.00 hr 

Position Overview: The Quarantine Companion Animal Caretaker plays a crucial role in ensuring the well-being and proper care of animals within a designated area of the sanctuary. This position involves daily tasks related to the maintenance, sanitation, and operation of animal facilities, as well as providing support for animal caretakers. 

Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care and Husbandry: 
  • Provide daily care for animals, including feeding, watering, and monitoring health. 
  • Maintain appropriate housing conditions, such as temperature, housing setup, and cleanliness. 
  • Recognize and report any signs of illness or distress in animals to the appropriate personnel. 
  • Ensure all proper protocols are followed to reduce the spread of any contagious illnesses.  
  • Monitor and report on any behavior changes in quarantined animals.  
Facility Maintenance: 
  • Clean and sanitize animal cages, pens, and equipment according to established protocols. 
  • Monitor and maintain facility cleanliness to ensure compliance with regulatory standards. 
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment and report any malfunctions. 
Record Keeping: 
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of daily activities, including animal health observations, cage changes, and environmental conditions. 
  • Document and report any deviations from standard operating procedures. 
  • Document barrier aggression and any behaviors such as, but not limited to, jumping, nipping, or leash issues. 
  • Log daily animal checks. 
  • Log weekly animal checks. 
  • Submit logs and documentation on Fridays to the supervisor. 
Compliance and Regulations: 
  • Adhere to local, state, and federal regulations regarding animal care and use. 
  • Assist in maintaining compliance with all sanctuary protocols. 
Collaboration and Communication: 
  • Work closely with research staff, veterinarians, and other team members to facilitate the smooth operation of the facility. 
  • Communicate effectively with colleagues to ensure the highest standards of animal care and welfare. 
Training and Development: 
  • Stay informed about new techniques and technologies in animal care. 
  • Participate in training programs to enhance skills and knowledge related to the field. 
Qualifications: 
  • High school diploma or equivalent; relevant certifications or coursework in animal science or a related field is a plus. 
  • Previous experience in animal care or a similar role is desirable. 
  • Understanding of ethical considerations and regulations surrounding animal research. 
  • Physical fitness and ability to lift and carry heavy objects. 
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills. 
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills. 
Working Conditions: 
  • Exposure to animal allergens, odors, and cleaning chemicals. 
  • May require occasional weekend or holiday work. 
  • Ability to work in a physically demanding environment.
