The Uvalde Recovery Program Director will be responsible for representing HCMHDDC in activities related to community recovery from the May 2022 Robb Elementary mass shooting tragedy, including, but not limited to the oversight and management of community recovery, Uvalde Together Resiliency Center (UTRC) Victims of Criminal Act (VOCA) -funded positions, VOCA contract oversight and data collection, community collaboration and training, community outreach, clinical services, determining community needs, staffing support for recovery activities, and other duties as deemed appropriate by HCMHDDC leadership.

With support of the Director of Behavioral Health Services, the Uvalde Recovery Program Director will plan, organize, implement, and oversee mental health service delivery programs in establishing goals, objectives, policies, and procedures; monitoring and evaluating program performance; developing and monitoring budgets; integrating programs with other state and community services; and ensure community access to counseling and other support services are available.

The Uvalde Recovery Program Director will also be responsible for allocating staff and resources; development of strategic outreach strategies; development of policy and procedures for addressing the target populations; coordination of multiple stakeholders in the community; design, coordinate, and conduct training, intervention models, core competencies, and improvement processes or other trauma related disorders.

  • Supervise a team that will focus on long-term recovery efforts in the Uvalde Region
  • Coordinate educational awareness and events to provide information and support to the community.
  • Increase Mental Health Literacy throughout the Uvalde Region
  • Ensure the Uvalde Leadership Coalition and Steering Committee is developed to support and implement policies for continuing systems improvements.
  • Improve Mental Health Crisis Capacity through the development of the Handle with Care Program between law enforcement and Uvalde Schools

 

Primary Responsibilities:

Your primary responsibilities will be assigned based on the needs of the agency and may change at the discretion of the Director of Behavioral Health Services and may include some or all the following:

  • Ability to maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety of stakeholders, including community members, advocates, lobbyists, and law enforcement professionals.
  •  Establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, employees, city staff, related police agencies and organizations and the general public.
  • Knowledge of community resources and counseling/social work practices with high-risk populations.
  • Knowledge of the City of Uvalde community resources and functions
  • Temperament to communicate with a variety of personalities in a tactful, pleasant, and professional manner.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to establish rapport. Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to document information and maintain accurate records.
  • Knowledge of record keeping and reporting procedures.
  • Ability to work independently and with a strong sense of focus.
  • A strong sense of and respect for confidentiality involving both clients and coworkers.
  • Ability to work in various settings with culturally diverse families and communities in a culturally sensitive and appropriate manner.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all internal and external agency customers and personnel.
  • Ability to manage and organize multiple priorities.
  • Perform other related work as assigned.

 

You’ll definitely need:

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in human services field, psychology, social work.
  • A valid Texas State Driver's License.
  • Current automobile insurance.
  • Maintain licenses and certifications without lapsing.

Preferred

  • Master’s degree in psychology, counseling, marriage and family therapy, social work
  • 3 years of supervision experience
  • Bilingual and able to read, write and speak Spanish proficiently.

  • Sustain a calm demeanor when under pressure to handle sometimes difficult situations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and care for your team.
  • Work autonomously to complete assignments.
  • Work cooperatively with others and be punctual and consistent in attendance because your people will rely on you!
