Job Description: HR Generalist/Payroll Clerk

(Department: 502-HR/PR)

Summary

Harper Industries is looking to fill our company's first HR Generalist position. This is a new role in our company and will report to the HR Manager.

We are excitedly looking for a positive, inquisitive HR Generalist/Payroll Clerk, who loves streamlining processes and problem solving. Someone who will take HR duties off ownership's plate while ensuring that HR operates efficiently and smoothly as directed. In addition, our new HR Generalist will support ownership, management, general managers regarding HR matters and a few office tasks.

The ideal candidate will be initiative-taking and have experience in managing a wide range of human resources tasks to help the company and HR Manager across a large local employee population in Harper, Kansas and in many states.

This person must be exceedingly well organized, flexible, must have excellent attention to detail, is able to work independently with little or no supervision, and enjoy the challenges of supporting the company of diverse people. Someone who enjoys going home knowing they put their best foot forward and made a difference by supporting a company and its people.

Duties and Responsibilities:

•This position reports directly to the HR Manager

•Maintaining payroll information by collating, calculating, and entering data

•Updating payroll records by entering any changes to employee information or benefits such as job title changes, exemptions and saving deductions

•Preparing reports that include summaries of earnings, tax deductions, leave, compassionate leave and non-taxable wages.

•Calculating payroll liabilities by determining employee taxes, including federal and state income and social security tax, and calculating employer’s payments for social security, unemployment, and worker’s compensation

•Resolving payroll discrepancies and answering any employee payroll queries

•Maintaining all payroll operations according to company policies and procedures

•Assists with recruiting, interviewing, hiring, onboarding, new and existing staff.

•Provides overall prioritization of work assignments and management of functional team resources and their activities.

•Ensures accurate and timely processing of payroll updates including new hires, terminations, and changes to pay rates.

•Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll transactions.

•Running various reports for department, supervisors, and management as needed.

•Prepares and maintains accurate records and reports of payroll and employee files.

•Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience:

•A minimum of one year of human resources generalist experience with at least one year in payroll processes using ADP of similar web-based processes.

•A bachelor's degree in business administration or human resources, or equivalent experience preferred.

Schedule/Salary

▪40-hour work week.

▪Overtime with pre-approval by supervisor.

Physical Requirements

▪Requires excessive walking, bending, stooping, stretching, and carrying objects (usually less than forty-five pounds)

▪Requires finger dexterity for keyboarding, visual skills for reading and clear and concise verbal skills for communicating and receiving instructions.
