Maintenance Mechanic

Position Description

SUMMARY OF POSITION: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the maintenance mechanic performs a variety of tasks involved in the upkeep of buildings, grounds and related structures, fixtures, and utilities.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Performs skilled maintenance activities including dismantling, assembling, installing, repairing of plant machinery and equipment.
  2. Maintains inventory of tools and equipment necessary to perform maintenance and repair activities; request parts necessary to perform maintenance and repairs.
  3. Maintain various records of maintenance and repair activities.
  4. Follows all safety rules and company policies.
  5. Assembles, rebuilds, or modifies equipment under the direction of co-workers, supervisors, or the engineering department and instruct operators and other maintenance personnel on the safe operation of equipment where applicable.
  6. Works from verbal and/or written instructions, work orders.
  7. Troubleshoots, diagnoses and repairs machinery and equipment. Tests equipment and makes necessary adjustments for proper operation before turning machine/equipment over to production,
  8. General knowledge of electrical of 480 v/3ph, 110 v control voltage, 24 v trouble shooting, hydraulics and pneumatics.
  9. Welding and Metal Fabrication.
  10. Knowledge of plumbing and pipe fittings.
  11. Maintain GMP/HAACP requirements while performing maintenance duties.
  12. Maintain a neat and organized work environment.
  13. Participate in the procurement of repair parts.
  14. Maintains productive and effective working relationships with operations/staff /hourly employees and USDA personnel.
  15. Reports any unusual circumstances to immediate supervisor.
  16. Cooperates with others and manages conflict in a mature and positive manner.
  17. Supports production as needed in machine /equipment start up.
  18. Responsible for completing parts requisitions and returning unused parts to storeroom.
  19. Must be available to respond to critical situations as they arise. Communicate with members of management and co-workers using company provided hand held radios.
  20. Complete MPulse assigned tasks as directed by Supervisor.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:


Education required/ preferred:

High School Diploma or General Education (GED) required

Experience:

3 years minimum within industrial maintenance field. Slaughter floor experience preferred. Experience with repairs and maintenance of processing equipment. Experience in chain drives, conveying systems and variable frequency motor controls required. Must be experienced in pneumatics & hydraulics Must have proven mechanical ability.

Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Must be familiar with PLC's and electronic drives. Must be familiar with AC and DC motors and controls. Must be able to use necessary test equipment. Welding, using oxy-acetylene cutting torch. Must be experienced with power tools and a wide variety of shop equipment.

Skills/Competencies:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as production schedules, service manuals, trouble shooting guidelines, safety rules, operating instructions and procedure manuals.

Other Skills:

Must be able to speak, read and write the English language. Must be a self-starter, team player and able to work with little or no supervision. Able to follow instructions, both written and verbal.



WORKING CONDITIONS: When regularly entering the processing facility, hairnets, beard covers, ear protection, hard hat and steel toed boots are required. Rings and exposed jewelry are to be removed. Must be able to work on ladders, or other authorized equipment for maintaining, repairing, replacing, installing or cleaning equipment. Must be capable of standing or sitting for extended periods of time. Must be capable of pulling, pushing and lifting 50 + lbs. Must be willing to work in tight places. Must be capable of obtaining a license in operating a forklift or other powered industrial trucks.

Must provide personal tools as required by FM Meat Products L.P. tool list.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving mechanical parts.
