ORGANIZATION:   

Area Agency on Aging and Community Action Agency for Northwest Indiana, founded in 1965, the NWICA Mission is to ensure the people who experience financial hardship find opportunities, resources, and respect. We do this by helping individuals of all ages and families, through direct services and referrals.  

 

Serving residents in Lake, Porter, Jasper, Newton, LaPorte, Pulaski, and Starke Counties  

 

FUNCTION: 

Reporting to the Manager of Property Management, the Janitorial position is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and hygiene standards of NWICA facilities. This position is responsible for the day to day operations ensuring a clean, safe, and well-maintained environment for employees and clients. Potentially serving any of the NWICA service areas.  

The Janitorial position is expected to be an active participant in the agency’s mission, vision, and values. He/she shall work to ensure consistent, quality services to the agency’s constituents, demonstrate enthusiasm, initiative, and flexibility in assignments and maintain positive working relationships and communication with all agency personnel, will be inclusive, communicative and will establish himself/herself as a primary resource to those he/she works with.  

 

Major Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Maintain cleaning schedules and ensure all areas are cleaned and maintained according to required standards 
  • Perform general duties, such as cleaning floors, restrooms, offices, common areas, and other designated areas as needed 
  • Maintain inventory of cleaning supplies, equipment, and tools, and coordinate replenishment as required. 
  • Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations and agency policy at all times 
  • Clean and/or clear walkways of debris/snow 
  • Complete minor repairs such as switching lightbulbs or unclogging toilets 
  • Notifies Director of Facilities when major repairs are needed 
  • Completes required reporting/checklist as required 
  • Follows safety rules and precautions  

 

Qualifications 

  • High school diploma or equivalent qualification. 
  • A minimum of one year experience in a similar role. 
  • Physically capable and available to work overtime including weekends, public holidays, and evenings. 
  • Effective problem-solving abilities. 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Must be well-organized and have the ability to prioritize tasks.
