Position Summary:
The Embedded Controls Engineer II performs an assortment of complex engineering duties in the development, design, and implement of hardware and firmware for embedded systems, ensuring that the project objectives and schedules are met.
Measures of success:
- Accurately develop Functional Specifications
- Accurately develop Circuit Schematic and Printed Circuit Board design
- Accurately develop Circuit Simulation
- Accurately develop Firmware
- Accurately develop Purchase Specification
Responsibilities:
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Creates Circuit Schematic/Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design.
- Performs coding, testing, debugging, and modifying of complex embedded systems.
- Coordinates and participates in hardware and firmware design reviews and code reviews.
- Documents and archives software program releases in accordance with company software development process.
- Develops product requirements specifications and product functional specifications.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams to build scalable solutions.
- Analyzes hardware and firmware requirements to determine feasibility of design.
- Identifies, evaluates, documents, and mitigates issues and risks across hardware/firmware applications.
- Contributes to project plans by providing timescale and cost estimate.
- Familiar with Underwriters Laboratories (UL), Canadian Standards Association (CSA), Electrical Utilities (EU), and Federal Communications Commission (FCC) requirements.
- Assists with coaching and mentoring associate-level engineers for skill and knowledge development.
- Provides technical expertise on embedded hardware to multiple project teams, sales and marketing, quality services and customers.
- Writes concise yet comprehensive technical documentation.
- Supports production with the life cycle demands of current products.
- Assists in the resolution of product-based technical issues.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering
- Six plus (6+) years of embedded systems hardware and firmware development
- Familiar with power electronics hardware development
- Strong working knowledge of Circuit Schematic and Printed Circuit Board (PCB) design tools
- Familiarity with Simulation tools (Matlab-Simulink; PSpice; Python)
- Strong working knowledge of basic electrical; testing equipment (i.e., logic analyzers, scopes, spectrum analyzer and multi meters, etc.)
- Strong C programming and assembly languages skills
- Working knowledge of Version Control and bug tracking software
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
- Excellent organizational, communication and teamwork skills
Minimal travel to conferences, trainings, and customers
Work Environment
This position works primarily in an office environment using computers and technology. Verbal and auditory capability are required. Occasional exposure in production plant where large equipment and noise are prevalent. Safety gear is required in these areas.
This position may work from home up to 2X/week if performance is in good standing.
This position has no direct reports.
