The Med Tech provides personal care and related services to residents in the community according to documented, individualized service and care plans. The Med Tech functions under the Resident Care Director/Assistant Resident Care Director. Certified to administer medications and provide routine wellness services to residents in accordance with the established nursing care procedures and as directed by the supervisor.

SENIOR LIVING MED-TECH QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:

  • Graduate from high school or equivalent preferred.
  • Completion of certification program for Certified Nurse Aides (required)
  • Must be a Certified Nurse Aide with the Medication Aide permit (required)
  • Previous CNA experience required
  • Good understanding of nursing process, strong clinical skills in administration of medications and performing treatments, and strong understanding of infection control procedures.
  • Have the professionalism necessary for establishing and maintaining a good rapport with resident and family members. Ability to handle emotionally charged situations in a professional manner.
  • Experience working with the elderly is desirable.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Excellent people skills with a patient, compassionate and friendly attitude
  • Knowledge of fire, safety, and infection control procedures
  • Ability to convey a positive and professional image to residents, family members, visitors and co-workers

SENIOR LIVING MED-TECH ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Tasks may include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Administers prescribed medications.
  • Obtains vital signs, records, and notifies the supervising nurse of deviations per Individual Service Plan (ISP).
  • Performance of prescribed treatments following facility policy and procedures.
  • Utilizes standard precautions and infection control procedures
  • Follows the resident’s individual service plans as directed. Follows the daily task sheets developed for each
  • resident
  • Follows written instructions and requests assistance and further instructions with new or unfamiliar situations
  • May be involved in the supervision of Caregiver’s & CNAs in the delivery of planned resident care.
  • Actively participate in the orientation and development of Caregivers.
  • Assists the resident in any daily routines including personal care and housekeeping tasks.
  • May provide assistance with the following:
  • Personal hygiene (bathing, grooming, hair care, shaving, skin care)
  • Change bed linens and make bed
  • Toileting and Incontinent Care
  • Nutritional and fluid intake
  • Dressing
  • Ambulation and transfers
  • Positioning
  • Medication reminders
  • Reports observations and other pertinent information related to the care of the resident including changes in the resident’s status and/or the home situation.
  • Provides services that support the care delivered to the resident and review care plans daily to determine if changes in the daily care routine have been made.
  • Provides input in the formulation and evaluation of standards of care.
  • Participates in the identification of staff educational needs.
  • Conducts self in a professional manner in compliance with community policies.
  • Assists the Resident in maintaining a safe a clean environment by surveying the Resident’s room for safety and removing all soiled linens from rooms. Bed linens, towels, and washcloths are to be changed as necessary.
  • Performs routine checks on residents.
  • Maintains that all resident call lights are promptly answered, followed by appropriate responses to requests.
  • Exhibits a caring and respectful attitude toward resident’s and the resident’s property
  • Assist with activities and encourage resident engagement and participation
  • Attend bi-weekly in-service meetings and mandatory meetings
  • Adheres to all community and company policies
  • Maintains confidentiality of all pertinent resident care information (uphold confidentiality of residents and coworkers, HIPAA)
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Resident Care Director, LVN/LPN or the General Manager
  • Carry out other duties as assigned

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  • Establish and maintain constructive working relationships with co-workers, residents, and families and visitors
  • Maintain confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents, employees and community operations
  • Employees will always work to the standards defined in the Parc 20 Basics, The Four Steps of Service, and the Parc Communities Credo
  • Neat appearance, adherence to dress code and good personal hygiene is expected
  • Promote Parc Communities in a positive way
  • Ability and desire to work as a team member

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS/TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Lifting, pushing, or pulling up to 50 pounds, using proper body mechanics
  • Possible exposure to unpleasant odors
  • Possible exposure to chemicals as identified in the MSDS Manual
  • Possible exposure to verbal aggression from vendors, guests, residents and/or family members.
  • Continuous exposure to clients and/or family members who may be under stress
  • Employee may be subjected to hostile and emotionally upset residents, family members, personnel, visitors, etc.
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, bend, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk. The employee is frequently required to use hand and finger to touch, handle and feel and required to reach with hands and arms. Must be able to meet certain physical demands of standing, bending, lifting, stooping or performing other work requiring physical exertion such as lifting (up to 50 lbs). Must be able to climb flights of stairs.
  • The work environment conditions described are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The employee must be able to work well in well lighted/ventilated areas.
  • Must be able to sit, stand and walk for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to endure the resident’s environment, which may be unsanitary and uncomfortable.
  • Must be able to assist residents to roll in bed, sit up from a lying position, stand from a sitting position, transfer assist to and from w/c and provide stand-by assist during resident ambulation or other activities of daily living
