The Safety Director (SD) is responsible for overseeing and working with warehouse and office employees to enforce and improve safety measures in our distribution centers and offices. The SD must be knowledgeable with the Occupational Health and Safety Administration (OSHA) guidelines, as well as best-in-class health and safety practices and be able to detect and eradicate all health and safety hazards. The SD must be proactive and work to make improvements to the work environment to become best in class.

The SD inspects work areas and employee work habits, processes, and procedures to ensure that everything complies with OSHA rules, best-in-class practices, environmental safety guidelines, and makes changes to improve the safety of the workplace when necessary.

This position will primarily be based in Canton, GA but will require domestic travel as needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Designs and implements safety programs for designated company workspace
  • Stays up to date on state and federal workplace safety regulations
  • Monitors and initiates corrective action plans that come from executive safety meetings, safety team audits, safety incidents and consultant feedback
  • Runs informational meetings, annual safety training and drills for employees regarding proper health and safety habits and procedures at work
  • Identifies health and safety hazards
  • Recommends ways to improve health and safety in the workplace
  • Writes reports detailing health and safety issues
  • Presents reports and suggestions for improvement to the company Chief Quality and Compliance Officer and Executive Safety Committee
  • Fields inquiries from employees about proper safety procedures
  • Responds to on-site incidents
  • Investigates on-the-job accidents and compiles information and data to help in incident reporting
  • Identifies hazards or faults that caused the incident and devises strategic plans to remedy those problems
  • Conducts preventative audits of the warehouses and offices and tracks corrective actions in a formal and systematic manner

Skills:

  • Communicates details of safety procedures and product quality issues to appropriate employees and team members
  • Keen attention to details
  • Learns and thus demonstrates detailed knowledge of OSHA and product regulations and guidelines
  • Demonstrates the ability to work closely with other team members
  • Able to work autonomously
  • Working knowledge of MS Office and Benchmark Safety Database Software
  • Exhibit ability to think practically and creatively to implement the best safety practices
  • Responds quickly, efficiently, and calmly to safety incidents and product issues
  • Exercises caution and alertness at all times
  • Possesses strong problem-solving and project management skills
  • Familiarity with writing health and safety policies and procedures
  • Proficiency in conducting data analysis and reporting statistics
  • Exemplifies strong leadership skills
  • Possess solid interpersonal skills. Ability to form productive relationships while also enforcing safety protocols.
