General Description

Plans and coordinates the activities of the Avionics Technicians to maximize efficiency and productivity. Supervises and trains subordinate personnel in proper procedures, methods, practices, and safety. Provides technical leadership and guidance, sets and measures performance standards, group priorities. Reports daily status to the Avionics Manager and Maintenance Supervisor.

Requirements:

Qualifications

1. To the extent of the incumbent’s responsibilities; has a full understanding of all the applicable maintenance and airworthiness requirements of Parts 1, 21, 43, 65, 91, and 145 of the FAR and the company manual system.

2. Oversees the use and maintenance of all test equipment and tools used in Avionics Maintenance. Assures that all equipment is properly used, cleaned, maintained and is stored in assigned areas. Assures test equipment and tools in use are within their calibration period.

3. Follows up on parts and equipment required. Provides turnover information on deficiencies and shortages.

4. Prepares daily shift turnover reports located in the maintenance office, initiates forms, and paperwork as needed, assures that all paperwork is properly executed and signed.

5. Ensures that instructions and design drawings in use on the job are current and is fully versed and cognizant of the procedures therein.

6. Monitors performance and progress of assigned personnel and assures conformance to policies and systems outlined in company manuals.

7. When acting in the capacity of a technician, adheres to those respective duties and responsibilities as described in those position descriptions.

8. Notifies the Avionics Manager and Maintenance Supervisor immediately of any problem with parts, materials, airworthiness items or workmanship issues that may adversely affect completion delivery dates.

9. Ensures that specific duties and responsibilities of the incumbent that are contained in the Repair Station Procedures Manual are effectively and efficiently carried out.

10. Ensures that all subordinate personnel make both written and verbal turnovers to ensure continuity of inspection and maintenance tasks.

11. Ensures that subordinate technicians are thoroughly informed of specific job task objectives.

12. Assure timely completion of avionics and aircraft maintenance functions by coordinating the installation of avionics equipment with aircraft Maintenance Lead personnel to meet specified downtime of aircraft.

13. Assists Quality Control with completion of required FAA and company paperwork.

14. Conducts pre-flight checks on radio, electrical and electronic equipment.

15. Assists Avionics Design personnel in interface design and system analysis.

16. Maintains Avionics Shop supplies at proper levels and reorders, as required.

17. Prepares and provides Aircraft Maintenance Leads and Quality Control Personnel with detailed work scope and interacts with Maintenance Supervisors, Leads and Quality Control Inspectors in project planning meetings.

18. Provides technical assistance and training to company and customer pilots in system operation prior to and during flight-testing.

19. Performs customer liaison functions during after-hours operations.


SPECIAL NOTES

The incumbent of this position is expected to perform all other related duties as assigned.

1. The principle duties and responsibilities of the incumbent default to Avionics Manager for dissemination to other qualified personnel.

2. The incumbent may delegate specific, or all assigned duties to any qualified assistant; however, such delegation does not relieve the Avionics Lead of overall responsibility.

3. The incumbent must hold a current and valid FAA Mechanic Certificate with ratings appropriate to the incumbent’s responsibilities or an FAA Repairman Certificate with ratings appropriate to the incumbent’s responsibilities.

4. The incumbent shall not countermand, revoke, or otherwise influence the decision of an Inspector of the Quality Control Section.

5. The incumbent shall not undertake nor assign any subordinate to a job for which the incumbent or subordinate is not qualified, or in specific occasions, so authorized.
