Thermal Analysis Engineer

Job Summary:

Intuitive Machines is an innovative and cutting-edge space company making cislunar space accessible to both public and private customers. With multiple NASA lunar missions in the making and additional private missions on our manifest, we pride ourselves in supporting NASA, our customers and the nation in paving the way to return humans to the surface of the moon. Our world-class team includes experts in all spacecraft subsystems design, development, and test, on-orbit operations, and safety. We are looking for a Thermal engineer to join the Commercial Division working on incredible projects.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Thermal Analysis: Conduct detailed thermal analyses of spacecraft and aerospace systems using tools such as Thermal Desktop. Analyze and predict the thermal behavior of components and systems across various mission phases.
  2. Modeling and Simulation: Develop and refine thermal models for spacecraft components, subsystems, and the entire vehicle. Utilize simulation tools to predict and optimize thermal responses under different environmental conditions.
  3. Heat Transfer Systems: Design, analyze, and optimize thermal control systems, including radiators, heat pipes, and thermal insulation. Ensure effective heat dissipation and temperature control to meet mission-specific requirements.
  4. Testing and Validation: Plan and conduct thermal tests to validate analytical predictions. Collaborate with the testing team to ensure alignment between simulations and real-world performance. Analyze test data and iterate on thermal models as needed.
  5. Integration Support: Work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure seamless integration of thermal control systems with overall spacecraft design. Provide guidance on thermal considerations during the design phase.
  6. Documentation: Prepare comprehensive documentation, including thermal analysis reports, design specifications, and test plans. Clearly communicate analysis results and recommendations to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  7. Continuous Improvement: Stay current with advancements in thermal analysis tools, techniques, and aerospace thermal control technologies. Contribute to the continuous improvement of thermal analysis methodologies within the organization.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in thermal analysis and design for aerospace systems. Experience with Thermal Desktop or similar thermal analysis tools is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in thermal modeling and simulation.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer principles and thermal control systems.
  • Familiarity with industry standards and best practices in aerospace thermal analysis.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to convey complex technical concepts to a diverse audience.
  • Capable of working collaboratively in a multidisciplinary team environment. Ability to provide technical leadership in the thermal domain.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to troubleshoot and iteratively improve thermal solutions.
  • Willingness to adapt to evolving project requirements and timelines.
