The City of Friendswood is currently accepting applications for a full-time IT-PD System Administrator, in the Information Technology Department. This position under general direction, is responsible for ensuring the reliability of the systems operating environment in the Public Safety Building and other City facilities.


.Work Performed:

  • Analyzes, designs, codes, tests, debugs, maintains, modifies and documents operating systems to meet business requirements. Coordinate's design of subsystems and integration with larger systems.
  • Remains current on industry trends and evaluates new technology makes recommendations as needed.
  • Sets up new profiles, creates and updates access permissions and system policies and maintains user accounts. Defines procedures for user access to systems environment.
  • Installs and configures system hardware and software including LAN/WAN, firewalls, IDS/IPS, routers/switches, wireless, servers, printers & scanners. Maintains tracking and configuration documentation.
  • Maintains system security by checking logs for issues such as attempted intrusion.
  • Understands industry and regulatory requirements.
  • Knowledge and understanding of CJIS protocols, Microsoft Server technologies such as Windows Server, Active Directory, DHCP, DNS, Exchange, SQL and Linux, VoIP phone system, maintenance of analog and IP based security camera systems.
  • Responds regularly and promptly to helpdesk tickets and other requests.
  • Performs routine maintenance tasks for infrastructure systems, backups, patch management and hot fixes. Assists in establishing requirements, methods, and procedures.
  • Provides 24X7 production support.
  • Verifies that system backups run successfully. Performs off-site storage procedures.
  • Assists in preparing training material. Provides training to users on technology changes.
  • Prepares reports for review by the Deputy Director of IT.

Education and Experience: Four-year college or university program certificate in computer science or related field; or three to five years of related experience (Windows 10/11, Microsoft 365, Windows Server, Virtualization) and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Requirements: Valid Texas drivers' license with a good driving record. Able to pass CJIS background check.

Schedules Working Hours: On-Site, Full time 40+ hour work week, occasional weekend assignments and ability to be on-call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Position may require 24-hour availability during emergency conditions.
