Wound Care Lead RN (Multispecialty & Research Hospital)


Job Summary: The RN Wound Care Leads provides direct and indirect patient care and is responsible for the assessment planning, implementation, and evaluation of wound care for patients at MSRH. This role acts as a wound care resource for physicians and nursing staff on concerns pertaining to patients with wounds, pressure injuries, ostomies, fistulae, and incontinence. Collaborates with patients, families, and healthcare team members to implement necessary interventions to promote wound healing and prevent skin breakdown. Additionally, completes general nursing duties in all departments with adequate supervision. Responsible for coordinating the investigation and improvement of nursing care for hospital-acquired pressure injuries and developing action plans to prevent future occurrences. Job Duties: * Under the general direction of the CNO, the RN Wound Care Lead coordinates treatment to provide comprehensive wound assessments and care plan development, including goals, treatment implementation, evaluation, and outcomes for patients throughout the facility. * In coordination with MSRH executive leadership teams, develops and implements the patient wound care guidelines and policies, documentation tools, wound care formulary, and Wound Care Consult criteria. * Assists nursing teams in establishing standards of care and competencies. * Serves as a lead in the development of hospital guidelines to prevent skin breakdown. * Promotes high-quality, cost-efficient, and effective wound care for all clinical staff. * Provides consultation and/or assessment on patients with suspected pressure injuries, and wounds that do not show measurable signs of healing within the hospitals' specified time frame. * Assesses new postoperative ostomy patients, provides patient and family education, offers recommendations for ostomy supplies, and assists the multidisciplinary team in the patient's discharge plan. * Documents with photography and in the electronic health record, recommending appropriate evidence-based care interventions. * Makes recommendations to the physician for changes to wound care orders and offers evidence-based research support as needed. * Conducts chart reviews of patients with wounds. Confirms that wound assessments, care plans, and treatments are clearly and appropriately documented, and that appropriate wound related treatments are delivered. * Maintains data and reports as requested, and monitors patient outcomes on a regular basis. * Follows the standards of the Organization of Wound Care Nurses (OWCN). * Serves as a subject matter expert for wound care-related product evaluation. * Educates staff on products available for use in the hospital, provides education related to wound prevention, wound care, ostomy care, and incontinence. * Investigates all cases with wound-related adverse events. Qualifications: * Graduate of an accredited Nursing program either by a governmental authority nursing board or by a licensing authority that has jurisdiction over approval/accreditation of nursing programs (Texas BON 217.1) * BSN Required * Four (4) years of RN experience with at least two (2) years of experience in area of wound care specialty. * Current Texas BON (or Compact State) RN license * Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification * Certified Wound, Ostomy, and Continence Nurse (CWOCN) Additional Information
