Intern - Housing Programs/Host Homes:

Host Home Program (HHP) is a housing program within our Homeless Youth and Young Adult department. HHP is an intervention that is a critical part of a community’s effective homeless crisis response system. HHP connects young adults 18-24 experiencing homelessness to housing in a community host home with supportive services. These services include supportive counseling, linking young adults to community resources, and the use of time-limited financial resources. HHP is a higher barrier housing programs where applicants (hosts and guests) must meet a certain criteria and demonstrate readiness to be accepted into the program. Once accepted, services provided are typically tailored to the unique needs of the participant(s).

Fundamental goals of this HHP project are to reduce the amount of time a young adult experiences homelessness, thereby supporting a trajectory towards independence, self-sufficiency, housing stability, and contribution to self and community.

This is an unpaid internship but you will earn valuable credits toward your college degree. Looking for 8 - 10 hours per week.

YOUR POSSIBLE RESPONSIBILITIES AS AN INTERN:

  • Accompany the HHP Coordinator in the community with clients, hosts and at recruitment events.
  • Assist the HHP with the screening/application process of hosts and guests.
  • Learn skills of debriefing in order to be able to determine what went well and what did not.
  • Engage in reflective supervision.
  • Assist HHP Coordinator with accurate data entry.
  • Create social media content for recruitment and communication.
  • Attend community and agency meetings.
  • Assist in developing appealing youth centric program materials for clients.
