Small Engine Mechanic position at our Summerville, South Carolina location.

What Does a Small Engine Mechanic Do?

  • Provides friendly and knowledgeable assistance to customers, addressing their STIHL-related product inquiries and helping them select suitable services, products and parts
  • Provides service, maintenance and repairs for all Stihl-related products, as authorized by the vendor, in a timely manner to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Determines part(s) needed, estimates labor and determines if repairs are covered under product warranty
  • Provides regular updates to customers on issues regarding warranty coverage, service/repair delays, or availability of parts
  • Actively participates in all aspects of floor sales, in addition to sales, service, repairs and training of Stihl-related products
  • Responds to customer requests accurately and efficiently on product orders, or information on products or services, including product usage, application, availability, and/or pricing
  • Maintains a safe, secure, clean and well-organized work environment including the service area and all other associated areas per vendor and company guidelines
  • Requests assistance from management in resolving customer complaints when necessary
  • Processes customer sales transactions, as well as setting up different types of customer accounts
  • May be directly responsible for maintaining inventory, product displays, and pricing labels within assigned area in regard to merchandising standards by stocking, facing, straightening, and cleaning or any other task necessary to maintain appearance of products
  • This can include verifying all signage is accurate and in compliance with company, vendor and store merchandising standards
  • Proactively seeks product/project knowledge to provide personalized information to customers
  • Identifies unique selling opportunities
  • Performs other tasks as assigned


What Does It Take to Be Successful as a Small Engine Mechanic?

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred
  • STIHL Certification perferred but not required
    • Compensation based on STIHL Certification Level (Bronze, Silver, Gold, MasterWrench) and experience
  • Computer proficiency
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot equipment service or repair issues in a timely manner
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, equipment diagrams and procedure manuals
  • Ability to speak effectively and explain products and instructions to groups of customers or employees
  • Results-oriented with the ability to serve stores with humility and be a steward of Nation’s Best’s values
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment while remaining adaptable and flexible
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the willingness to consistently provide superior customer service skills
  • Physical ability to lift and carry items weighing 25-50 or more pounds, as well as perform tasks like bending, twisting, squatting, and reaching throughout the work shift
  • Availability to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends (typically between 7 am and 6 pm)
