Position Summary

The Manufacturing Systems Integration and Automation Project Manager is responsible for the realization of strategic goals related to integration and automation of manufacturing control, monitoring, and data systems. The Manufacturing Systems Integration and Automation Project Manager must work effectively with all levels of the organization from operators to corporate management to accomplish strategic goals.

We are open to this role being based in any of our manufacturing locations - this role is cross-posted.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Works side-by-side with the Mactac LINKS team to develop and execute project work supporting the successful integration/linkage of ERP/MES (JD Edwards/Greycon) with machine specific control systems such as PLC/HMI/Industrial PC.
  • Creates detailed schematics/documentation of existing machine control schemes - including process maps, inputs/output diagrams, sequence logic trees, etc.
  • Identifies opportunities for automation of 1) ERP/MES data input direct from PLC/SCADA, 2) ERP/MES to machines for recipe automation/error proofing, and 3) data compilation in SCADA for data analysis.
  • Creates plans for project implementation and leads cross-functional teams to pilot automation and subsequently cascades across the network.
  • Develops applicable training materials and provide training on system improvements.
  • Leads the development and optimization of SCADA (Aveva) systems across the manufacturing network.
  • Identifies opportunities for additional Critical to Process, Critical to Quality, Critical to Reliability data collection and creates plans for implementation, leads teams at each site to execute, and cascades across the network.
  • Becomes the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for the application, integration, operation, standardization, and training of Aveva systems within Mactac.
  • Develops standard alarming/notification practices and troubleshooting trends.
  • Investigates, trials, and implements automated statistical control systems to reduce losses/waste and improve Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
  • Champions research and trial of AI technologies for machine data set analysis, predictive analytics, and root cause analysis.

Specifically, within the project management scope, the position will:

  • Work with site operations and technical groups to create required equipment upgrade project plans, specifications, timelines, deliverables, and develop validation methods.
  • Prepare RFQ packages and solicits quotes for responsible projects as required.
  • Create appropriation requests, including an overall project scope, justification, EHS plan, timeline, and quoted cost summaries.
  • Issue purchase orders and track overall project spending to budget.
  • Maintain project schedules by monitoring progress, coordinating activities, and resolving potential roadblocks.
  • Deliver project proposals and periodic updates to the management team and key stakeholders.
  • Manage installation, startup, validation, and EHS sign-off of equipment controls upgrades, equipment wiring installations, HMI / process improvements, and other facility upgrades.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge & Skill Needed:

  • Education: B.S. Controls Engineering, B.S. Electrical Engineering, B.S. Industrial & Systems Engineering, B.S. Industrial Engineer.
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience implementing, improving, or integrating manufacturing systems
  • Experience with the following systems/software is desired:
    • SCADA implementation/optimization (ideally Aveva/Wonderware),
    • ERP/MES to equipment PLC/SCADA integration (ideally JD Edwards/Greycon),
    • Experience utilizing HMI development platforms: Wonderware InTouch, Ignition, Siemens Simatic, Allen Bradley PanelView
    • Working knowledge of machine controllers, including PLCs and Industrial PC systems
    • Experience in PLC programming (Allen Bradley/Siemens)
    • Familiarity with/or willingness and aptitude to learn common software programming languages on a project-by-project basis (such as C#, Python, JavaScript, Java, PHP, SQL)
    • Experience with PowerBI (a plus, but not required)

  • Communication Skills:
    • Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, with people of various educational and technical backgrounds, both inside and outside the company.
    • Ability to document sequences of operation and effectively communicate current/future state to bring proposals to realization.
    • Ability to use computers to do word processing and spreadsheets.
    • Ability to use drawings, such as AutoCad or similar software, to effectively communicate wiring schematics and proposed modifications.
    • Ability to create and present PowerPoint proposals to management.
    • Ability to utilize Gantt style timelines to communicate and manage project schedules (such as Microsoft Project).
    • Ability to use Pivots and other data organization methods to graphically support proposals and justify decisions.
  • Mathematical/Statistical Skills
    • Ability to perform various math functions, with emphasis on measurable impact of mathematical calculations.
    • Ability to identify and quantify variation in processes - Six Sigma training is a plus, but, not required.
  • Work and Travel Expectations:
    • The Manufacturing Systems Integration and Automation Project Manager will reside in one of the major coating sites (Spartanburg, SC; Columbus, IN; Scranton, PA; Minneapolis, MN; or Troy, OH) with frequent travel to other locations. Typical domestic travel expectation depends on home location and will be up to 50%. Occasional international travel may also be required.
    • Due to the nature of project work, some extended travel is required (multiple weeks in a row). Although not always possible, a genuine effort will be made to accommodate reasonable return visits home.
    • Due to the nature of the position, the engineer will work in manufacturing environments, offices, and remotely during travel.
    • A significant amount of time will be spent in manufacturing facilities where hearing, eye and foot protection are mandatory.
