Position Summary

The below job summary and responsibilities reflect the duties of the Principal, Senior, Staff, and Entry levels and will differ as corresponding skills and/or experience is required.  The successful candidate will be placed at a level that is commensurate with the candidate's skills and experience.
 

This position may be based in Minneapolis, MN, 55418, or Henderson, CO, 80640, on a hybrid work schedule.  Minimal to occasional travel involved.

We seek a candidate who has a good understanding of the operational practices of our power generation plants – both thermal and renewable (wind/solar) based. This candidate must have extensive mechanical engineering skills and the ability to use state of the art technology to analyze power plant process problems. The candidate will work in the Monitoring and Diagnostic (M&D) Center and develop models with analytical software that will be used to evaluate equipment condition and performance.  

The successful candidate will work with others to ensure that all the fleet power plant/ wind facility monitoring and equipment diagnostic activities in the Colorado, Minnesota and Texas regions are performed effectively and are providing value to the company.

Work is performed with minimal direction and considerable latitude is exercised in determining technical objectives of assignments. Guidance relates largely to overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts and policy matters.

Detailed Duties/Responsibilities

  • Review and assess plant equipment condition on a daily basis, with a strong focus on vibration, performance and thermal metrics.

  • Build and track equipment cases and interface with the appropriate plant contacts as needed, to advise of developing issues.

  • Conduct diagnoses of equipment system problems and provide advisory guidance on potential resolutions.

  • Create, tune and implement GESS models as well as OSI PI Vision Screens.

  • Calculate and report on value of advisories, i.e. savings and avoided costs.

Responsibilities

  • Apply extensive monitoring and diagnostic technical expertise and understand the basic principles of other related disciplines.

  • Fully demonstrate the unique technical skills and core competencies for this engineering level by applying technical standards, principles, theories, concepts, and techniques.

  • Largely self-directed work is expected to result in the development of new or improved techniques, procedures and standards. Support the development of technical documentation (including but not limited to designs, testing, calculations, reports, standards, etc.)

  • Without appreciable direction, exercise considerable latitude in determining ongoing technical support for project activities within areas such as Operations, Maintenance, Testing/diagnostics and Regulatory.

  • Represent the organization as the prime M&D technical contact for assigned plant equipment and assets. Interacts with senior external personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination with internal and external organizations.

  • Effectively and with precision, resolve difficult technical/business matters both inter-organizationally and with outside customer/vendors with all formats of communication.

  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less experienced engineers.

  • Responsible for continuous self-development of technical skills and competencies.

Minimum Requirements
Bachelor's Degree in Engineering from ABET accredited curriculum, 9+ years relevant engineering experience and Professional Engineer (PE) registration required for Principal, 5+ years for Senior, 2+ years for Staff, and 0+ years for Entry Level.

Preferred Qualifications

Preference will be given to candidates with training in power-plant and wind generation, equipment diagnostics especially in vibration monitoring and analysis, skill in using relevant analytical software, knowledge of first principal modelling software and possessing strong technical writing skills.

SCADA and/or Distributed Control Systems (DCS) experience and knowledge

Salary ranges for these positions are as follows: Entry Level $67,000 - $84,000; Staff Level: $77,000 - $101,000; Senior Level: $93,000 - $123,000; Principal Level: $107,000 - $138,000
