Job Description

The Naval Reactors Facility, as part of the Naval Nuclear Laboratory is seeking an individual to qualify and perform the duties of a Nuclear Criticality Safety Engineer. The duties in this role include:

- Independent oversight of fuel handling operations at NRF
- Review and approval of fuel handling technical work documents and equipment designs
- Surveillance and audits of fuel handling operations
- Authoring or approval of nuclear safety procedures
- Providing training on related topics above to several groups across the NNL

Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 6 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field and 4 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part I qualified; or EDO qualified and 2 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or 3 years SRE qualified and Water Instructor and Refueling Facility Area Refueling Engineer and Fuel and Barrier Shift Supervisor (ECF only); or SRE qualified and 6 years of experience.
Preferred Skills
  • Nuclear engineering or physics background or similar work experience in nuclear safety
  • Familiarity with fuel handling controls as governed by the NRF 1600 manual.

Pay Range
$92,900.00 - $145,200.00 annually

The Naval Nuclear Laboratory is operated for the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) by Fluor Marine Propulsion, LLC (FMP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Fluor Corporation. Naval Nuclear Laboratory personnel are FMP employees who work at four DOE facilities: Bettis Atomic Power Laboratory, Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory, Kenneth A. Kesselring Site, and Naval Reactors Facility, and at the U.S. Department of Defense-owned Nuclear Power Training Unit-Charleston. FMP employees also have an established presence at numerous shipyards and vendor locations. For nearly 70 years, the Naval Nuclear Laboratory has developed advanced nuclear propulsion technology, provided technical support, and trained world-class nuclear operators to ensure the safe and reliable operation of our nation's submarine and aircraft carrier Fleets.
