Nature Playground Attendant (part-time, April - October, $14.00/hour)

ABOUT US: The Schaumburg Park District is an award-winning public agency that provides its 80,000 residents with a wide variety of recreational facilities, programs, events, parks and open spaces. Spring Valley features 135 acres of prairie, woodlands and wetlands, three miles of walking trails and an 1880s living history farm. Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground is a unique play area custom designed to engage children in active and passive play in a natural setting.

LOCATION:  Spring Valley Nature Center, 1111 E. Schaumburg Road

JOB SUMMARY:  The nature playground attendants are responsible for monitoring admission to Bison’s Bluff Nature Playground to ensure safe capacities are maintained and implementing opening and closing of the site. They greet the public, confirm and check-in registered users, and assist walk-in users with admission and payment. They will also be responsible for general cleaning and maintenance of the nature playground. Stationed within a kiosk near the entrance to Bison’s Bluff, they are also an available presence to answer questions and provide information about Spring Valley’s other features and amenities.

QUALIFICATIONS:  The best applicants will exhibit maturity and have an upbeat attitude and exemplary customer service skills.  Requires someone with basic computer skills. Ability to work independently and willingness to adjust to a changing pace of work. Able to work outdoors in all types of summer weather.

SCHEDULING & PAY:  This is a seasonal, part-time position (April-October) paying $14.00/hour.  Two attendants will be on duty at all times on weekends and busier periods, with one attendant on weekdays during spring and fall. Schedule is generally 3-5 days per week, including some weekends, with two daily shifts available: 9:30am-3pm and 3pm-8:30pm (Note: hours would be less during April, September and October due to shortened facility hours). This position is a largely outdoor, weather-dependent role and hours may be curtailed during inclement weather.
