The Veterans Canteen Service (VCS) is seeking a Supervisory Registered Dietitian/Patient Service Manager for our Marion, IL location. This position reports to the Canteen Chief. The incumbent serves in a supervisory position and has delegation of authority to act for the Canteen Chief.

This position is only open to Registered Dietitians.

DUTIES:

Primary Duties include:

· Serving as professional and technical advisor to staff and other health care professionals.

· Responsible for a full range of personnel management, administrative controls, reviews and processes relative to Canteen and NFS operations.

· Responsible for attaining financial goals and implementing program objectives as established by VCSCO and/or the Region Manager.

· Coordinating policies and procedures with clinical nutrition management, nursing and other services as applicable.

· Monitoring compliance with regulatory standards, policies and procedures.

· Participating in performance improvement efforts acting on quality improvement data and plans. Completing internal audits of food service and food production. Completing routine kitchen inspections. Leading the action planning process to attain goals and resolve deficiencies.

· Evaluating food operations to ensure proper allocation of resources. Ensuring budgetary requirements are met.

· Devising solutions and implementing action plans to resolve issues and meet service goals and objectives leading to improved patient satisfaction and quality food operations.

· Participating in an active patient test tray program including evaluation of overall tray accuracy, food safety, quality and palatability, temperature, exceptional service, and implementing similar evaluations.

· Collaborating with the clinical nutrition staff, bridging the work of NFS with the nutritional care plans for Veterans.

· Using available technology to enhance the work of all employees within NFS.

· Managing VHA supported software programs and/or commercial off-the-shelf software (COTS) to support the effective management of food operations and patient meal services.

· Developing and maintaining training and reference materials for the nutrition and foodservice staff.

· Completing audits for the foodservice staff, determining action plans when results require corrective measures.

· Coordinating and supporting downtime procedures for the nutrition and foodservice, ensuring procedures remain up to date.

· Coordinating all aspects of training related to computer systems, menus and informatics for NFS employees.

· Overseeing the technology used for meal production, meal service and temperature control.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

· Must be a Registered Dietitian and be able to provide documentation.

· At least one year of experience as a dietitian.

· Able to demonstrate successful operating accomplishments and possess excellent leadership and managerial skills.

· Quality and complexity level of experience should be commensurate with duties and responsibilities of the position.

· Knowledge of standards to assess staff compliance and implement performance improvements.

· Skill in establishing goals and objectives to coordinate activities, evaluate accomplishments and solve problems.

· Skill in applying nutritional knowledge to ensure menus meet nutrition standards.

· Ability to utilize Evidence-Based Nutrition Practice Guidelines in order to develop, implement and coordinate best practices.

· Ability to supervise subordinate staff (i.e., plan, organize, delegate, direct, control and review activities and performance).

· Ability to analyze data in order to recommend allocation of resources.

NOTE: Participation in the seasonal influenza and Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) Vaccination programs are requirements for all Department of Veterans Affairs Health Care Personnel (HCP). Participation in the seasonal influenza program is a condition of employment. It is a requirement that all HCP receive the COVID-19 vaccination and annual seasonal influenza vaccination or obtain an exemption for medical or religious reasons. Wearing a face mask is required when an exemption has been granted. HCP in violation of these directives may face disciplinary action up to and including removal from federal service

HCP for purposes of the influenza vaccination program are individuals who, during the influenza season, work in VHA locations or who come into contact with VA patients or other HCP as part of their duties. VHA locations include, but are not limited to, VA hospitals and associated clinics, community living centers (CLCs), community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), domiciliary units, Vet centers and VA-leased medical facilities. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, remote and onsite, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time employees, intermittent employees, fee basis employees, VA contractors, researchers, volunteers and health professions trainees (HPTs) who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these facilities. HPTs may be paid or unpaid and include residents, interns, fellows and students. HCP also includes VHA personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.

HCP for purposes of the COVID-19 vaccination program refers to all paid and unpaid persons who work in or travel to VHA locations who have the potential for direct or indirect exposure to patients or infectious materials, including body substances (e.g., blood, tissue, and specific body fluids); contaminated medical supplies, devices, and equipment; contaminated environmental surfaces; or contaminated air. These HCP may include, but are not limited to, emergency medical service personnel, nurses, nursing assistants, physicians, technicians, therapists, phlebotomists, pharmacists, health professions trainees (HPTs), contractor personnel, and persons (e.g., clerical, dietary, environmental services, laundry, security, maintenance, engineering and facilities management, administrative, billing, and volunteer personnel) not directly involved in patient care but potentially exposed to infectious agents that can be transmitted from HCP and patients. HCP include all VA licensed and unlicensed, clinical and administrative, paid and without compensation, full- and part-time, intermittent, fee basis employees who are expected to perform any or all of their work at these locations. HCP also includes VHA personnel and contractor personnel providing home-based care to Veterans and drivers and other personnel whose duties put them in contact with patients outside VA medical facilities.
