Job Description
Job Summary:
Compass Systems, Inc. is seeking a Key Journeyman Cost Estimator who will be responsible for collecting and analyzing financial data to provide accurate estimates of project costs including labor, production time, and materials.
Essential Job Functions:
- Prepare cost estimates for product manufacturing and engineering services to aid management in bidding on or determining the price of product or service
- Performs tasks with little guidance
- May specialize according to particular service performed or type of product manufactured.
- Assists management in the planning and budgeting of projects, ensuring that resources are allocated efficiently and effectively
- Creates labor estimates for projects
- Analyzes technical documents in order to prepare estimates
- Uses bid data to prepare a detailed cost analysis
- Presents prepared estimates to management and other stakeholders
- Compiles and records actual costs
- Assesses cost effectiveness of products, projects and services, tracking actual costs relative to bids as the project develops
- Coordinates with engineers, customers, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates
- Prepares estimates used by management for purposes such as planning, organizing, and scheduling labor
Other Job Functions:
- Communicate with personnel and customers in a professional manner
- Works closely with other professionals, including accountants and operations personnel to provide the most accurate and comprehensive financial and budget analysis
- Prepare estimates for use in selecting vendors and subcontractors
- Prepare cost and expenditure statements and other necessary documentation at regular intervals for the duration of the project
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications/Education/Experience/Skills:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering (aerospace, computer, electrical, etc.), technical (IT, Physics, Mathematics, etc.), or business (accounting, finance, etc.) discipline
- Three years of experience in the job functions listed above, with all three years of experience being directly related to DoD
- An Associate’s degree and four additional years of experience may be substituted for a Bachelor’s degree, or six years of additional experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree
- Certified Cost Professional (CCP) or Certified Cost Estimator/Analyst (CCE/A) certifications preferred
Physical Requirements:
The work is mostly sedentary involving frequent telephone communication and preparation of written correspondence. While performing the duties of this job, the employee routinely is required to sit, stand, walk, see, hear, and feel. Occasionally will need to lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. Must be able to interpret data, information, and documents. Can learn and apply new information and/or skills.
