THE POSITION

The Engineering Office of District 9-0 is currently in search of a highly skilled individual to join their team as a Highway Draftsman Designer. DESCRIPTION OF WORK

The staff member is responsible for executing the drafting details and design for minor highway projects or contributing to the design of highway projects ranging from minor to moderately complex, covering all stages from initial engineering to final design, and the preparation of plans, specifications, and estimates. These projects encompass a range of tasks such as resurfacing, restoration, rehabilitation, lane widening, safety enhancements, and intersection improvements.

Utilizes Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) tools or traditional techniques and methods as needed to complete assigned tasks. Engages in various work assignments utilizing CADD design software like Microstation, OPENROADS, Autotab, and others. Collaborates with colleagues on CADD-related projects and acquires knowledge of CADD functionalities through teamwork.

Develops highway plans and right-of-way plans based on field survey notes, existing plans, and other relevant project data collected, following the guidance of a highway designer, civil engineer, and/or the Project Manager. Implements survey notes, aerial imagery, and engineering information to create accurate and detailed plans using CADD tools or traditional drafting methods.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment
  • Work hours are 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with 30-minute lunch.
  • Telework: You may have the opportunity to work from home (telework) part-time. In order to telework, you must have a securely configured high-speed internet connection and work from an approved location inside Pennsylvania. If you are unable to telework, you will have the option to report to the headquarters office in Hollidaysburg.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Highway Drafter; or
  • Three years of experience in a variety of drafting assignments, one of which shall have been in highway drafting, including six months CADD experience or training, and graduation from high school; or
  • Two years of experience in highway drafting and detailing assignments including six months of CADD experience or training and an Associate's Degree in civil engineering, drafting, or design technology; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training.
