THE POSITION

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this Planner I - Critical Infrastructure Preparedness position, you will help develop, review, and maintain emergency preparedness and response plans for natural, man-made, and technological hazards. This includes developing and participating in exercises that test planning efforts as well as building awareness of these efforts by engaging the community through education and outreach and conducting damage assessments. You will assist upper management in the daily operations of the office and during actual emergencies to staff the County's Emergency Operations Center activations. This position also manages grants related to hazardous materials and oversees annual collection of the chemical inventory and Tier II reports submitted by industrial facilities. Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 40 hours per week.
  • Work hours include an irregular schedule. 24 hour per day, seven days per week coverage flexibility needed during emergencies to staff the County's Emergency Operations Center activations.
  • You must be available 24 hours per day, seven days per week, as emergencies warrant.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

QUALIFICATIONS:

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • One year as a Planner Trainee; or
  • Two years of professional experience in local, regional, or state planning; or
  • A master's degree in planning; or
  • Any equivalent combination of experience and training.

Other Requirements:

  • This particular position also requires possession of a valid Class C driver's license.

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

  • This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law.
