Salary Range: $62,400.00-72,000.00

MAJOR FUNCTIONS:

The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor is responsible for providing services which assist clients in obtaining necessary education, vocational skills, interests and work attitudes in order to secure employment. She/he will meet regularly with the interdisciplinary team to communicate information related to the client’s vocational status. The Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor works closely with the rest of the staff as an integral part of the clinical team.

SPECIFIC DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Formulate a vocational profile for assigned clients in OASAS certified residential programs including TABE testing and the comprehensive vocational assessment within designated time frames.
  • Assist clients in developing realistic short and long-term vocational goals.
  • Administer and interpret vocational and interest tests to establish clients' achievements, interests and aptitudes.
  • Serve as liaison with NYS Vocational and Educational Services for Individuals with Disabilities and the NYC Dept. of Education (Off-site Educational Services and Board of Adult Continuing Education).
  • Present compiled vocational data to treatment staff and participate in treatment team meetings.
  • Conduct discussion groups providing vocational awareness, techniques for handling work situations and job seeking skill preparation.
  • Maintain up-to-date resident charts including individual and group notes; develop and maintain good charting skills.
  • Interface with department supervisors in coordinating job functions and situational assessment performance appraisals.
  • Prepare all necessary proposals and reports.
  • Attend regularly scheduled staff meetings and case conferences.
  • Attend all required in-service training seminars.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities.
  • Other relevant duties as required.

REQUIREMENTS: EDUCATION/TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  1. Master’s Degree in Rehabilitation Counseling with 1 year related work experience preferred.
  2. Certification in Rehabilitation Counseling (CRC) highly preferred.
  3. 3 years' professional experience in rehabilitation services.
  4. Proficiency with computer operation (Microsoft Word, Excel, AWARDS, and Outlook programs).
  5. Must be able to work a flexible schedule.
