Position Overview: The PSR is the first point of contact for patients, and their caregivers. Responsibilities include patient interviews, collecting and verifying demographic, insurance and financial data, accurately entering information into computer that affects any aspect of the registration, or admission, process. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication skills, accurate typing skills, knowledge of office procedures, and ability to work independently required.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Greeting patients and caregivers on arrival in a welcoming and friendly manner.
  • Properly identifying patients utilizing two identifiers, name and date of birth, and scanning copy of patient identification into database.
  • Proper completion and explanation of all required registration forms, including proper filing of imaging requisitions when appropriate.
  • Adherence to general admitting policies and procedures to include proper placement of patients on appropriate nursing unit in appropriate status per practitioner order, and proper transfer of patients per practitioner orders. Timely and accurate discharge of patients per practitioner order.
  • Follows proper procedures for deaths and autopsies to ensure timely handling of deceased patients.
  • Management of patient valuables in accordance with the hospital policy and procedure.
  • Collection of copays as required, following cash drawer process.
  • Fully cross-trained in and able to assist AR Department with various Revenue Cycle functions, including assistance with patient billing questions, and provides back-up coverage for department as needed.
  • Assists with orienting and training new team members.
  • Flexibility in assuming other appropriate responsibilities and duties not noted above.

Education: High school degree plus two years clerical experience required.

Experience: Previous healthcare experience and medical terminology preferred.

Physical Requirements: Repetitive use of hands and fingers (i.e. use of computer keyboard). May require use of lifting and carrying light loads (up to 10 pounds). Sitting or standing/walking for long periods of time.
