Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Central Plant Supervisor, maintain and operate electrical, mechanical and pneumatic equipment throughout Soaring Eagle Casino and Resort, Migizi and Tribal Operations buildings.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Utilize operating knowledge to work on the following: Industrial chillers and boilers; DDC control and pneumatic controls; HVAC equipment; water tower operations; chemical treatment; motor control fundamentals; 3-phase electricity, computer controlled devices; electrical systems; air balancing; plumbing; and pools, fountains and other similar water features.
  • Perform preventative maintenance schedule of equipment and utility systems as assigned.
  • Perform daily rounds of mechanical areas including checking of chemical levels of pools, chilled water and heating loops.
  • Maintain commercial chillers and boilers including daily checks, repairs and preparation for seasonal startup/shutdown.
  • Perform maintenance of HVAC systems including air handlers, exhaust fans and compressors including inspection, belt, sheave, shaft maintenance and replacement, evaluation of control and damper operation, coil cleaning and filter replacement.
  • Monitor Central Plant control desk operations including monitoring of temperature control computerized systems, conducting Central Plant equipment rounds, and receiving phone calls from requesting departments.
  • Maintain supply levels of maintenance and repair equipment and communicate to Supervisor when inventory items need to be ordered.
  • Utilize and document logs such as phone, vehicle, equipment, tool, and water chemistry.
  • Handle emergencies that may arise on a daily basis; report to supervisor as needed.
  • Practice SECR Hospitality Rules with every internal and external guest.
  • Provide excellent customer service for all internal and external customers of the operations at all times. Provide solutions for customer concerns and continually focus on customer service as our top priority.
  • Must maintain strict confidentiality and present a positive, professional demeanor and image at all times.

Contacts/Purpose of Contacts:

  • Contact with requesting departments about problems with mechanical equipment and new equipment installation reviews.
  • Contact with all Facility divisions as needed to resolve problems with equipment and systems as defined in the essential job duties.
  • Contact with Central Plant Supervisor to discuss assigned work, related solutions and what other additional resources may be needed to complete repair.
  • Contact with vendors, suppliers, and engineers as needed to discuss repair and design of equipment as defined in the essential job duties.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of applicable Tribal, federal, and state laws, regulations and requirements.
  • Knowledge of the current standards and safety codes for heating and cooling systems.
  • Knowledge of current OSHA rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of duct venting, heating and cooling systems, CFR coolants and gases.
  • Knowledge of utility and electrical systems and their components.
  • Skill in installing, troubleshooting, repairing, and testing utility systems.
  • Skill in operating equipment and tools.
  • Skill in basic math and using measuring instruments.
  • Skill in providing superior guest service to external and internal guests.
  • Ability to coordinate assignments and tasks with other departments, programs or construction trade.
  • Ability to read and comprehend blueprints, schematics, diagrams and or sketches.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate efficiently and effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees and the general public.
  • Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.
  • Ability to operate computerized equipment and microprocessor control systems.


Physical Demands:

  • Frequent use of hands, wrists, fingers associated with computer and repair equipment.
  • Required to stand and walk for extended periods of time and reach with arms and hands.
  • Requires long hours of standing, stooping, bending, and climbing.
  • Occasionally sit, balance, kneel, crouch or crawl.
  • Normal visual acuity, ability to talk and hear.
  • Frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.


Work Environment:

  • Exposure to dirt and dust from project work areas; wet and damp areas; cramped and close work areas; and working around operating equipment with mechanical, electrical, pneumatic or hydraulic hazards requiring usage of safe work practices.
  • Work with chemicals for water treatment and extreme temperatures in boiler rooms and rooftop work areas.
  • Must possess sufficient stamina to work under all types of weather conditions including extreme hot/cold and to lift, carry, push, or pull a variety of tools, equipment and materials
  • Exposure to hazardous stains, lacquers and other chemicals that require respiratory protection.
  • Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required.
  • Evening, overnight, holiday and/or weekend work may be required.
  • Frequent walking and standing in a smoking environment and contact with the general public. Constant visual stimulation via neon lights on slot machines, repeatedly changing machine video screens, static or flashing signs throughout the casino and constant machine and crowd noise.

Job Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Three years of experience in a Central Plant, mechanical equipment environment, or licensed HVAC.
  • Must be able to pass background check to meet the employment eligibility requirements as they pertain to the position.
  • Incumbents at or above the income threshold as determined by the National Indian Gaming Commission will be required to obtain and maintain a gaming license while in this position as part of their job responsibilities. Individuals who do not have the ability to obtain or maintain a gaming license will not be able to continue.


License, Certification, or Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to obtain a Certified Pool Operator license.
  • Must have a valid State of Michigan Driver`s License, with the proper designation required for the vehicle utilized to perform the job duties, and qualify for coverage by SCIT auto liability insurance carrier. A Tribal Driver`s License will also be required if a Motor Pool Vehicle is used in the course and scope of the required job duties.
  • Native American preference shall apply to all positions.
