Help us help others:

Direct Support Professionals provide opportunities for people to grow as individuals and members of the community. This position is responsible for supporting individuals in daily tasks of living, and providing social, recreational and community-based activities. Services are delivered in compliance with HHSC service definitions and principles for both Home and Community Based Program (HCS) and Texas Home Living Program (TxHmL) as well as meeting community standards. We are seeking Team Members that are self-driven, eager to learn and grow with the program and willing to support all aspects of the program, both in the homes and in the day services program.

You will get to:

  • Able to be a role model to Individuals. Provide hand over hand assistance and/or hands on assistance with daily living skills
  • Assist individuals with their finances through money management training, money identification and making purchases / counting change
  • Able to provide supports to Individuals who exhibit behaviors, both physical and verbal; able to follow and implement Behavior Support Plans and document accordingly
  • Assist individuals with meal preparation, to include shopping, following recipes and assist in the cooking process
  • Provide transportation to and from community outings, community employment and other scheduled events while meeting all transportation guidelines
  • Monitor, assist with and document individuals’ self-administration of medication
  • Ensure individuals safety by participating in fire drills and evacuation drills
  • Maintain cleanliness of the home by following daily, weekly and/or monthly checklist provided
  • Maintain an environment free of hazards; completing work orders when necessary and reporting immediate concerns to the Management Team
  • Provide accurate documentation of services provided, within 48 hours, through paper documentation as well as the use of an Electronic Health Record
  • Utilize EVV devices for services provided, when necessary
  • Able to learn and utilize Adaptive Aid Equipment, including wheelchairs and Hoyer Lifts
  • Work cooperatively with others and communicates with everyone on the team
  • Work independently and carry out assignments to completion with minimal supervision
  • Provide exemplary customer service to the Individuals and Family Members
  • Maintain punctuality and consistent work attendance, providing at least two weeks’ notice for any time requested
  • Able to show competency in ALL required procedures of Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior (PMAB) program annually as required by the Texas Administrative Code.
  •  
  • Provides professional representation of Hill Country MHDD Centers at meetings, seminars, consortiums, public events, stakeholder and other interaction opportunities as assigned.
  • Travels as necessary to ensure delivery and completion of assigned duties. May drive agency or personal vehicle as necessary in performance of job duties.
  • Guards client confidentiality by being knowledgeable of and adhering to HIPPA regulations.
  • Maintain current training requirements in Relias, as well as, other trainings as assigned either in person or virtual.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Job description may be changed to reflect job updates and requirements.

You’ll definitely need:

  • High school diploma, GED, or competency test with 3 letters of recommendation.
  • To complete and maintain both CPR certification and Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior training.
  • To have a valid Texas State Driver’s License.
  • To have current automobile insurance and the ability to travel to individuals when necessary.
  • **To help prevent injury to clients and staff, you must be able to successfully perform and demonstrate the physical skills to competently perform Prevention and Management of Aggressive Behavior. This can be both mentally and physically challenging. You will learn: the principles and methods of PMAB, decision-making, judgment, effective communication and, when necessary, the ability to physically intervene in real-life work situations when aggressive behavior is exhibited by the people we serve. To successfully demonstrate the physical procedures up through intermediate protection you must be able to: scoot backwards, pivot to the side, pull with either arm, grasp a wrist, with either hand, pull with either arm, bend forward at the waist, lie on your back with your knees up and ankles crossed, and return quickly to a standing position. Additionally, in order to perform the physical restraint procedures, you must be able to: lift and/or support at least 55 lbs, and while supporting a person, step back, go down to one knee, and gently lower person to the floor; lie in a prone position, and kneel on either knee. **

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions
  • Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance. Able to push, pull, lift and / or carry over 20 pounds
  • Able to talk, listen and speak clearly on telephone
  • Ability to provide CPR after obtaining Certification

  • Employ excellent verbal and written communication skills to engage and report effectively.
  • Maintain a well-organized schedule and travel as necessary to ensure completion of duties.
  • Maintain accurate and timely collaborative documentation with adherence to HIPPA regulations.
  • Sustain a calm demeanor when under pressure to handle sometimes difficult situations.
  • Provide exemplary customer service and care to individuals with their best interest at heart.
  • Work autonomously to complete assignments within community and HHSC standards with a high level of quality.
  • Work cooperatively with others and be punctual and consistent in attendance because your people will rely on you!

  • Dayhab (typically 8am-4pm) – responsibilities are more social, transportation, day-time activities-focused (travel to dayhab facilities, appointments, community activities, etc.).
  • Residential (typically 4pm-12am; 12am-8am – responsibilities are more home-based responsibilities (meals, housekeeping, etc.) and night-time activities-focused.
  • Flexible schedules can be coordinated and there are opportunities for overtime pay!
