Description:
The Sterile Processing Technician independently performs core sterile processing functions. Decontamination, preparation, sterilization and distribution of surgical instruments and equipment throughout the surgery center, utilizing infection control and safety practices during all phases of the process.

Duties:

• Operates all required equipment and machinery accurately and safely, prepares, assembles, and sterilizes instruments and supplies according to parameters of sterilization in accordance with The Department of Health, CMS, OSHA, CDC, AAMI and AORN standards.
• Maintains appropriate records, and monitors quality control and infection control standards.
• Provides asset management and support of surgical instruments and trays belonging to or consigned to the facility
• Accurately handles and cares for instruments appropriately, including appropriate selection of cleaning agents, lubricants, examination for function, identification and assembly and preparation for sterilization; retrieves malfunctioning instruments and ensures repairs are completed.
• Performs required biological monitoring tests on all sterilizers according to established policy and procedures.

Occupational Exposure:
Category I exposure to bloodborne pathogens, frequent exposure to chemical hazards and may encounter radiation hazards.

Qualifications:
Certified as a CSPDT (Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician) or CRCST (Certified Registered Central Service Technician) or qualifying experience per state guidelines.

Language skills for communication in American English, interpersonal communication and problem-solving skills. Requires constant and frequent judgment and response, high-level visual and auditory acuity for timely response and patient care activities. Ability to move quickly in response to physician and patient needs, occasional overhead and low reaching, bending, and the ability to exert force of up to 50 lbs. occasionally, up to 20 lbs. frequently and/or up to 10 lbs. constantly. Demonstrates ability to stand and/or walk at least five hours per day.

Experience:
Two years in central processing functions preferred.

Job Knowledge:
Knowledge of processes, procedures, quality assurance, chemicals and medical instruments sufficient to be able to decontaminate and sterilize equipment, supplies and instruments. Knowledge of equipment function sufficient to be able to determine operational adequacy and to distinguish between operator error and equipment malfunction. Knowledge of applicable sanitary, infection control, and safety standards sufficient to be able to perform all assignments within the safety parameters.

Salary Range: $18.18 - $26.08 Compensation for this role will depend on a number of factors, including candidates qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
