We are looking for someone exceptional to join our leadership team as Bilingual Health Education Director. The person in this role will be responsible for program management of educational initiatives focused on allergies, asthma and related conditions that are designed to raise awareness, educate, inform, and effect positive behavioral change for people living with these conditions, their caregivers, and the public.

Key Qualifications and Responsibilities:

- Bilingual to support our Hispanic/Latino outreach and education efforts and to manage those projects.

- Project management expertise and comfort using online collaboration tools for project management.

- Domain expertise in asthma and allergies.

- Organize and host webinars. 

- Guide and advise the digital health communications team. 

- 20% travel to represent the organization at Hispanic/Latino health equity events.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Health Education Director is responsible for program management of educational initiatives focused on allergies, asthma and related conditions that are designed to raise awareness, educate, inform, and effect positive behavioral change for people living with these conditions, their caregivers, and the public.

The Health Education Director role requires a bilingual Spanish/English speaker with strong background in identifying needs and gaps in health education; implementing, project managing, and evaluating educational initiatives; supervising a team, and supporting grant proposals to fund the development of educational initiatives.

The Health Education Director role requires an intermediate to advanced level of clinical knowledge and comfort reviewing the clinical literature for current evidence of best practices in the diagnosis and treatment of asthma, allergies and related conditions in order to develop current, evidence-based educational products, and the ability to translate that data to reflect the appropriate level of health literacy and digital literacy level for the audience for which the resources are being created.

This role will have approximately 15-20% travel to represent Allergy & Asthma Network at health equity events around the country, staff meetings and conferences.   While this role is remote when not traveling, individuals should live near a main airport hub in the Mid-Atlantic or Northeast.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Serves as lead program manager for complex educational projects using project management software and other tools to assign responsibilities, due dates and deliverables.
  2. Lead project manager for webinar production; proposes topics and speakers; schedules webinars; plans webinar objectives based on the topic and audience; collaborates with internal and external partners; coordinates and confirms speakers; drafts presentations as needed; hosts the webinars; and evaluates the post webinar survey data for future webinar planning purposes; coordinates with external partners that issue continuing education credits for webinars produced.
  3. Identifies gaps in education offerings by evaluating current resources and/or researching trends at the national level that could be turned into fundable projects or grant proposals.
  4. Oversees the digital team, including 4 employees and additional independent contractors.  This includes adhering to established content management processes and timelines to create engaging and relevant content at appropriate literacy levels for web pages, blog posts, articles, publications and other resources; drafts ad hoc web posts for time sensitive issues as assigned.  Evaluates opportunities to repurpose educational materials for multiple audiences or uses.  Ensures the team is developed and performs optimally.
  5. Supports grant proposals to execute educational initiatives, ensuring alignment with the funder's requirements, guidelines and deadlines.
  6. Collaborates with marketing and communications teams to develop promotional materials and campaigns to raise awareness about Network health initiatives and programs.
  7. Collaborates, as assigned, on external educational initiatives with health professionals, community organizations, or other groups to identify allergy and asthma and related diseases patient/caregiver education needs and develops educational strategies to address them effectively.
  8. Conducts training programs, as assigned, for school staff, healthcare providers, and other professionals on allergy and asthma and related topics and effective educational strategies.
  9. Evaluates the effectiveness of educational programs through data collection, analysis, and feedback from participants, and makes necessary adjustments for improvement.
  10. Partners with and supports other staff on projects and initiatives as needed, including special projects.
  11. Other duties as assigned.
 

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  1. Bachelor’s degree in public health, health education, or clinical degree such as nursing, allied health or similar. Master's degree preferred.
  2. Certified Asthma Educator (AE-C) preferred
  3. Bilingual Spanish / English, demonstrated cultural competence
  4. Expertise in food allergies or lived experience with food allergies strongly preferred
  5. Minimum of 8 years progressive work experience specifically in public health education, community outreach, or closely related fields.
  6. Working knowledge of:
    • Symptoms, treatment, and management of allergies, asthma, and related conditions strongly preferred.
    • Knowledge of public health principles, theories, and best practices, including communication principles.
    • Data collection, analysis, and evaluation methods.
    • Working knowledge of federal public health regulations and guidelines.

 

     7. Ability to:

    • Plan, develop, facilitate, and implement educational programs.
    • Develop educational materials and deliver presentations using various media formats.
    • Draw conclusions and make recommendations based on research data and findings.
    • Work independently, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines; organize resources and establish priorities within a remote working environment.
    • Work with others with respect, responsibility, and a strong emphasis on relationships.
    • Work with integrity, honesty and accountability.
    • Stay up to date on current public health trends, research, and best practices in health education, and incorporate them into allergy and asthma and related diseases program development and delivery, as appropriate.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in managing projects and leading a team using excellent communication channels to finish projects on time, at high standards of quality, and on budget.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to effectively engage and educate diverse audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail; Excellent records maintenance skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); project management software (ClickUp); Zoom webinar production; cloud-based applications and other relevant software applications.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines.
  • Must be able to organize work and follow through independently.
  • Strong commitment to continuing professional education to maintain and enhance proficiency.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT

  • No or minimal physical effort is required.
  • No or minimal exposure to physical risk.
  • Work is typically performed in an interior/office work environment.
  • Remote position with some local and long-distance travel to represent Allergy & Asthma Network in the community, at medical meetings or staff retreats.
