We are seeking fun, energetic, and friendly people to join our inclusive summer care program for school age children! Spend your days laughing and participating in sports, crafts, reading, exploring and more every day. Hand in Hand Summer program begins June 10 and ends on August 21. Hours are M-F 7:00 - 5:30. Full-time and part-time positions available.


Starting salary: $14+/Hour ** SIGN-ON BONUSES AVAILABLE**


Caregivers are responsible for the health, safety, and welfare of each child/adult enrolled in Hand in Hand inclusive summer care programs. They demonstrate leadership, actively participate in activities and programs, and serve as a positive role model for all participants and colleagues. Responsibilities will include the direct care of children of all abilities ages 5-18, development and deployment of adaptive activities, quality and safety control, parent/guardian interaction, and behavior management. The caregiver is responsible to the Summer Care Director overseeing their program.

Your Role:

Ensure the safety and well-being of all children at all times:

  • Ensure constant visual and auditory supervision of all participants.
  • Ensure sanitary procedures are followed by all children and adults. This includes hand washing procedures, blood borne pathogen training and practices, diapering procedures, and soiled clothing practices.
  • Immediately report all suspected cases of child and dependent adult abuse according to state Mandatory Reporting requirements
  • Execute a program schedule with flexible, consistent routines and planned transitions.
  • Always demonstrate respect for participants, communicating with empathy and compassion at their level and near the individual.
  • Meet all personal care needs of assigned children/adults of all abilities which can include diapering, catheterization, g-tube feeding.
  • Ensure constant compliance with state and agency stated staff to participant ratios.

Contribute to the development of an inclusive, nurturing, safe and engaging space to promote learning and development:

  • Maintain a neat, organized, engaging, and program space.
  • Develop a welcoming and friendly atmosphere to promote feelings of security, safety and belonging.
  • Monitor supplies and regularly communicate needs to Program Director.
  • Complete daily housekeeping tasks including laundry, dishwashing, floor mopping, sweeping and the general cleaning of surfaces.
  • Implement engaging activities that:
  • Foster creativity, inquiry and encourages participants to lead the development and learning process.
  • Incorporate a wide variety of experiences, materials, equipment, and instructional strategies.
  • Celebrates each participant's unique culture and abilities while fostering empathetic interactions with diverse individuals.

Facilitate connection and strong communication:

  • Develop professional relationships with participants, parents, volunteers and other members of the community.
  • Facilitate regular and positive communication with parents/guardians utilizing formal and informal communication methods approved by the agency.
  • Serve as a support person and advocate for families.

Accurately and fully complete all necessary paperwork and reports before the end of each shift.

Complete all annual required training.

Become knowledgeable of all services provided by Hand in Hand to promote our programs in the community.

Requirements:

Education and/or Experience

  • At least 16 years of age
  • Certified in infant, child, and adult cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR), first aid, and Iowa's mandatory reporting of abuse (Hand in Hand will coordinate courses for certification if not yet obtained)
  • Experience working with children and adults with disabilities
  • Knowledge of the State of Iowa Childcare licensing rules and regulations.
  • Ability to communicate clearly to children, adults, and coworkers.
  • Enthusiasm and desire to positively impact the lives of children and adults.
  • Experience using behavior modification techniques.
  • Compassion and enthusiasm for creating and leading inclusive programs.
  • Experience and competency with Microsoft Office software and other basic computer applications.




Compensation details: 14-14 Hourly Wage
