Job Description
Function:

This position has the primary responsibility for the assessment, planning, implementation, and support of the treatment for first responders enrolled in the First Responders Trauma Treatment Program.   The First Responder Trauma Therapist provides direct services and support including therapy, debriefing, on-site visits, and referrals when needed.  but is not limited to, 1) screening and assessment, 2) individual, collateral, group, and family therapy, 3) treatment plan development and reviews, 4) timely documentation, 5) obtaining authorization for services, and 6) discharge planning and referrals.   

Organizational duties & responsibilities:
  1. The primary responsibility of all staff is to ensure safety and well-being of all RE/ Re-group clients.
  2. Supports the mission, vision, and values of RE and Re-group.  Facilitates and adheres to the agency and licensure code of ethics, policies and procedures.
  3. Supports all functions that attain and maintain accreditation and compliance with regulatory agencies.
  4. Supports and facilitates positive interaction with clients and staff by exhibiting both in office and in the public when carrying out job duties:  individual maturity, respect for others, a team-centered approach, maintenance of confidential information, and an awareness and sensitivity to cultural and other differences in youth and staff.
  5. Exhibits effective communication skills including proper use of agency communication systems.
  6. Participates in appropriate professional development programs to attain and maintain competency.
  7. Has knowledgeable of and effectively can implement trauma modalities.
  8. Effectively manages financial and physical resources to achieve the mission of RE and Re-group.
  9. Reports incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving clients to the appropriate authorities and RE/ Re-group.
Essential duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Conducts and documents thorough diagnostic assessment for determination of diagnosis, treatment needs, and necessary referrals within the appropriate time-frame.
  2. Directs the planning, writing and timely updates of the client’s care plan.
  3. Prepares appropriate materials for all modalities utilized and provides services to fidelity based on model and medical necessity.
  4. Maintains appropriate trauma modality training and certification along with population specific trainings when available.
  5. Maintains contact with key personnel and leadership at local Fire and Police departments in order to have open communication of needs.
  6. Plans regular visits to all stations and locations where first responders are located to build rapport and trust.
  7. Provides education on symptoms of PTSD and trauma to first responders and their families.
  8. Provides debriefing as needed and requested for first responders.
  9. Oversee the day-to-day operations of treatment services for their clients.
  10. Promotes a positive view of RE and Re-group to the public and outside agencies.
  11. Provides individual, group, and family treatment, as appropriate, to client based on clinical issues and treatment needs.
  12. Attends program specific treatment team meetings for all clients, as appropriate.
  13. Maintains current service/therapy notes, treatment reports, and other written documentation and correspondence according to agency policy and within appropriate time frames.
  14. Attends all therapist meetings and assists in developing appropriate intervention techniques.
  15. Maintains current licensure and stays within ethical guidelines provided by your licensure board.
  16. Participates in supervision and consultation on a regular basis.
  17. Collaborates effectively with other assigned Re-group services and community partners.
  18. Meets minimum requirements for billable time on a consistent basis based on case load and area served.
  19. Ability to be flexible and adapt to change in schedules and work environment.
  20. Provides consistent, quality treatment to all clients on their caseload.
  21. Ensures all necessary records are maintained and kept confidential.
  22. Ensures entries in all treatment plans and narrative reports to MCO’s are done in a professional, concise manner and will be submitted as needed to maintain current authorization for services.  
  23. Participates in “on call” schedule when appropriate.
  24. Performs other duties as assigned.
Working conditions/environment:
  1. Shift is generally Monday – Friday but hours will vary based on the needs of the client.
  2. Holidays, weekends, and extra hours may be required.
  3. Fast-paced environment with need for quick decisions to deal with any crisis that may arise.
  4. Traveling throughout the week to meet with client and families in home and/or work setting.
  5. Primary work setting is in office but also can take place in the community including client home.
  6. Maintains a positive, professional attitude contributing to a supportive work environment.
minimum job requirements:Education:

Master’s degree from an accredited university in a clinical field, i.e. social work, counseling, psychology

Licensed or license eligible required

Experience:

Experience in community based programs preferred

Experience treating trauma in first responders preferred

Specific Skills andrequirements:

Must be at least 21 years of age.

Strong leadership and organizational skills.

Excellent communication and conflict resolutions skills.

Technical requirements include proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and any other applications used by the organization or regulatory agencies.

Valid Driver’s License and insurability.

Ability to understand and relate to the needs of youth from diverse backgrounds.

Ability to read, write and converse in English.

Successful completion of pre-employment drug screen.

Successful completion of a background screening.

Successful completion of a TB skin test or proof of a negative chest x-ray or other documentation.

Specialized Licenses or trainings:

Maintains 40 hours of Annual Training through Relias or other appropriate sources

Maintains at least minimum training for licensure

Maintains required trainings for trauma specific modalities and certifications

Attends all assigned trainings specific to job assignment
