POSITION SUMMARY: Responsible for supporting the manufacturing floor through resolution of problems by corresponding with the machine shop for consultation of reworking parts. Accountable for reviewing, evaluating, and modifying mechanical drawings and assembly documentation for use in the manufacturing process. Responsible for designing, developing, and building test fixtures for use in troubleshooting and/or improving manufacturability of parts and assemblies.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Responsible for design review of new mechanical parts and assemblies with an aspect to manufacturability.
  • Establishment of Production BOM and Routings for new mechanical designs.
  • Develop and document tooling and test equipment for use in manufacturing and machine shop.
  • Support manufacturing with the day-to-day mechanical assemblies' issues.
  • Performs part failure analysis on warranty parts.
  • Creation of new part numbers with the understanding of part/system groupings.
  • Creation of work and manufacturing instructions for use by incoming inspection.
  • Inspection of first articles for production consideration.
  • Interface with outside contractors –paint and machine shops
  • Coordinates the participation of related departments and/or functions in design activities.
  • Creates and maintains test standards used within the company.
  • Provide technical and troubleshooting support to Manufacturing groups.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS OF THE ROLE:

  • Ability to assist in programming Machine shop equipment-Mastercam software and program 3 axis vertical mill/router.
  • Recommends cost reduction and increase yield procedures.
  • Provide prompt and accurate technical support and guidance to internal customers on new and existing products.
  • Complies with all ISO 9001 procedures.
  • Maintains knowledge of standards, such as CE, WEEE, RoHS.
  • Prepares reports of technical projects and makes recommendations for actions necessary to achieve desired results.
  • Research and write Engineering Change Notices.
  • Other duties as assigned.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS: AS or higher degree desired, in addition to, equivalent related technical education/experience will be considered. 10+ years of machine shop experience with mechanical engineering or equivalent technical knowledge.

  • Organizational, planning, and prioritization skills required.
  • Strong verbal and written skills are fundamental, as is an ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently or with a broad base of people at all levels within an organization.
  • Strong independent problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to select appropriate operations for fabrication of parts (i.e. machine and settings).
  • Ability to identify materials, treatments, and finishes with their respective uses.
  • Strong CNC Milling and Lathe operation skills.
  • Ability to design and create jigs and fixtures to assist the machine shop with new part fabrication.
  • Strong GD&T knowledge and application on prints.
  • Ability to revise CAD drawings and mechanical prints, for clarity, for outside vendor part manufacturability using SolidWorks/Solid Edge.
  • Ability to use precision measuring tools to check for part compliance.
  • Understanding of the Non-conformance process functionality as a whole system.
  • Understanding of the Engineering Change Order/Notice process.
